Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, founded in 1986, is an 82 bed facility within the city of Norfolk, Virginia. Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health offers comprehensive mental health programs to the state of Virginia. We provide psychiatric and medically managed acute, residential treatment, and partial hospitalizationfor children and adolescents with significant impairments in their social and emotional development.

We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need using quality, evidence based practice treatments. We are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health currently has Full Time Maintenance Technicianjob opening.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following: completes major and minor repairs to maintain the physical plant of the facility.

The Maintenance Mechanic creates and maintains a safe and pleasant environment. Responsible for performing repairs and preserves the buildings surfaces, furnishings, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete work orders.
  • Respond to trouble calls.
  • Perform routine inspections of facility and grounds as a safety precaution.
  • Perform building repairs, painting, and preservation projects.
  • Test and adjust temperatures and load of operating equipment, as needed.
  • Repair and service the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems to include the security system.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues to determine parts needed to maintain equipment.
  • Install new and replacement equipment, as needed.
  • Organize and maintain tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Plant Operations
  • Demonstrate Service Excellence to promote a culture of excellence for all patients, employees, and visitors.
  • On call coverage required.
Job Requirements

Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities to include working knowledge of hospital accreditation and licensure standards and processes; demonstrated management and supervisory skills; working knowledge of physical plant operations and systems, preventative maintenance and safety policies/practice and working knowledge of effective housekeeping practices.

Education: High school graduate, GED or equivalent experience.

Licensure/Certification: N/A


Requirements: Physical requirements include standing for long periods, repetitive bending, stooping, climbing, lifting weights 50 - 80 lbs without assistance and in excess of 80lbs with assistance; accurate hearing and vision; ability to drive van/car/truck; must be able to work long hours; on call 24 hours/day. Must possess valid Virginia driver's license.

Experience: Three yearsmaintenance or construction experience required. Must possess knowledge of general maintenance work procedures;

ability to operate power and hand tools; ability to follow written and oral instructions.
