What You'll Do

We are looking for a solutions-driven, agile, and hardworking individual to join our Environmental Affairs team. You will have a sharp business focus, a collaborative style of working, and a proactive and critical mindset. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills are required, as is the ability to synthesize complex issues, drive desired outcomes, and influence stakeholders across functions inside and outside the company.

Who Youll Work With

Cisco has a dynamic in-house Legal department that is setting the standard for large corporations. As the company rapidly deploys innovative cloud-based communications solutions on a global basis, Cisco Legal has built a Market Access group with deep expertise in identifying the regulatory requirements that apply to these emerging technologies. You will be a key contributor on the Market Access Environmental Affairs team which monitors, influences and integrates efficient environmental regulatory strategies across Cisco.

  • Provide premier support to internal functional organizations by facilitating efficient regulatory market access strategies and capabilities
  • Deliver expertise and leadership on key environmental issues such as product materials, e-waste, conflict minerals, eco-design and other topics
  • Represent Cisco within industry consortium, trade associations, and other forums to monitor and influence regulatory developments on priority issues
  • Maintain and communicate global environmental regulatory roadmaps
  • Support the training requirements of global operations organizations by providing presentations on key issues that impact the business
  • Have fun in the process

Skills and Qualifications

  • A self-starter with excellent judgment, decisiveness, and the vision to craft creative solutions across diverse business scenarios
  • Ability to present complex issues in a clear and concise manner and provide succinct results-oriented legal advice that enables the business
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and lead regulatory analysis and implementation with complex and demanding deadlines
  • Extraordinary communications, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills, with superior time-management abilities
  • Experience working across and successfully influencing multiple internal organizations (e.g. supply chain, finance, sales, engineering, marketing, etc.)
  • Adept at partnering with legal subject matter guides to advise on regulations and other matters
  • BA/BS plus MS, MBA or JD degree in relevant studies; JD preferred
  • Sense of humor

Desired

  • 4+ years experience in high tech electronic products manufacturing, leading business impacts of global regulatory mandates including RoHS, WEEE, REACH, eco-design and e-Waste regulations as well as circular economy and sustainability initiatives
  • Expertise in developing and integrating effective, efficient environmental regulatory compliance strategies for electronic products
  • Proven ability to translate regulatory requirements into clear functional requirements for business teams
  • Working knowledge of industry standards, activities and trends as well as prior engagements with leading standards organizations and consortiums (e.g. ITI, DigitalEurope, IEC)
  • Experience interacting with major customers, suppliers and/or channel partners as well as external stakeholders such as analysts, government and non-governmental organizations regarding regulations and compliance
  • The ability to concisely communicate (in writing and verbally) complex regulatory and business issues with executives both inside and outside the company
  • Track record of conducting careful and thoughtful analysis with a bias toward action, and the ability to weigh and articulate the risk and reward of various scenarios
