Prudentials Retirement business is seeking a Lead Data Engineer with technical and analytical skills to build subject matter expertise on data platforms, advance our architectural strategies and work hands on for data efforts.

The Lead Data Engineer will lead solution envisaging, technical designs, hands-on implementation as well as provide operational support across multiple data analytics technology domains. The position will have the opportunity to influence, differentiate, and guide our business and technology strategies during constant interaction with various teams.

Prudential Retirements business is embarking on a multi-year program to build customer-centric platform utilizing contemporary technologies and innovative techniques to deliver employee benefit, employer, and advisor experiences that create and protect financial wellness. We are committed to making the investment to enable large scale business and technology projects to adopt cloud-based products and solutions to increase operational efficiency and enable revenue growth. The multi-program also focuses on leveraging cross-business capabilities within Prudential and partnering with Enterprise groups to enable common technology capabilities for global use across national boundaries. The Lead Data Engineer will be expected to contribute to the continued build out and modernization of our data platforms in support of our business strategies.


  • Provide deep technical leadership expertise to support the strategic initiatives and operational efficiency projects for Retirement business technology transformation
  • Engaging in conversations with business partners to identify requirements, needs and gaps aimed at technology driven transformation
  • Evaluate existing tools, technologies, processes and capabilities
  • Provide technology expertise and oversight on design, development and implementation of strategic programs and projects
  • Lead the analysis, architecture, and design implementation for Retirement technology projects employing sound solution architecture practices
  • Deliver artifacts, technical analysis documents and architectural designs that meet business requirements; oversees design reviews and frameworks
  • Lead and support proof of concepts and test and learn activities
  • Exercise experience and influence to make well informed technology build vs buy, platform and integration decisions in a rapidly growing and evolving environment
  • Collaborate and develop relationships with delivery teams and other Enterprise technology teams by partnering, sharing and leveraging best practices and solutions
  • Mentor and guide peers and junior talent to help create a pool of technically strong subject matter experts. 

  • Qualifications
  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of supporting large scale Cognos, Power BI/Tableau platforms for complex reports and dashboard design and implementation
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in supervisory role
  • Experience in leading BI data initiatives, including gathering requirements, estimating effort, designing and directing junior developers is required
  • Strong expertise in design and implementation of reports and dashboards accessing to large datasets. Strong experience with data lake reporting layers and supported architectures (ETL, SQL, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.)
  • Strong experience in design, prototype, develop, test, and document existing and new reports and dashboards; make recommendations for related functions that result in more cost-effective product delivery.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and SQL with proven ability to write efficient queries.
  • Experience in Splunk system monitoring is a plus
  • Strong experience in Identifying and interpreting trends or patterns in complex data sets; Analyzing data and results using statistical techniques and generate useful business insights
  • Desire to work on both projects and production support
  • Solid understanding of application of business risk and operational controls
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and fast pace environment preferred
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
  • A creative and analytical problem solver focused on translating complex business problems into architecturally sound technical solutions
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed
  • Working experience in a highly regulated Retirement sector or financial services or healthcare is a significant asset
