An individual in the Architecture job family is a strategic resource for UnitedHealth Group. This individual could be involved across many aspects of architecture, design, build, engineering and implementation of technical solutions and capabilities providing technical leadership. Responsible for communicating overall architecture vision, technical strategies, and trade-offs across various levels in the organization to gain buy-in. Will provide recommendations and technical guidance to improve performance, reliability, and reusability within the constraints of budget, resource and business dependencies. In base and mid-level roles, engages across teams in a capacity that ranges from assisting on in-flight initiatives, up to technical briefings and demonstrations of new technologies across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understand key business drivers

  • Assessment of the business requirements for an initiative or problem and Identify architecturally significant requirements
  • ""
  • Shortlist & compare feasible technical / business solutions
  • ""
  • Articulate the selected solution into a design
  • ""
  • Support the specification & construction of the design to completion
  • ""
  • The business owners to ensure alignment with requirements
  • ""
  • Hands on development role.
  • ""
  • Development teams to validate feasibility & provide support throughout construction
  • ""
  • Operations (ss&s) teams to understand current operational characteristics & explain the input/need for future operational readiness
  • ""
  • Identify and define the technology / integration needs for the end-to-end solution.
  • ""
  • Collaborate with Application and Technical / Infrastructure Architects to ensure that the NFRS / SOCRs are supported by the solution e.g. calculate the capacity & reliability required for each 'stress point' in the design (introducing 'scaling factors' where necessary)
  • ""
  • Investigate and apply design / architecture patterns and guide application design teams to ensure appropriate implementation
  • ""
  • Ensure that architected solutions are in compliance with relevant OptumRx and UHG Enterprise standards.
  • ""
  • Work across business areas, applications, data domains and technologies. (Usually supported by arch specialists)
  • ""
  • Work across organizations, functions and suppliers. (ADGs, CTS, Oracle, IBM etc.)
  • ""
  • Evangelize the solutions and align / leverage all specialists and SMEs
  • ""
  • Support reuse vs. build vs. buy decisions and supplier selection

  • Single owner of the solution blueprint for the client vs. many specialists.

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • ""
  • Experience providingcoherent and comprehensive technology enabled solutions for specific business problems using the whole portfolio of IT assets
  • ""
  • Experience architecting the entire solution (for a specific business problem) across architecture domains - Business, Application / Services, Data / Information, Technology / Infrastructure / Operations, Security etc.
  • ""
  • Development experience
  • ""
  • Excellent communication skills with technical and business teams.
  • ""
