Responsibilities

The Senior Hydrogeologist will be required to provide support in task areas such as:

Provide hydrogeologist expertise to investigate groundwater contamination at various Federal Government sites. Assist with evaluating indoor air, soil gas, and shallow groundwater data to be used in an investigation of soil vapor intrusion (VI) into buildings and residences on the site.

Work with team to develop and document best practices for selecting soil strata descriptors (soil types and depths) for modeling soil gas movement towards the buildings.

Assist team with reviewing background information gathered from site reports (such as area groundwater characteristics and plumes, area geology, building-specific groundwater characteristics, and building specific geology) for data validation draft (DVD) reports.

Assist with building-specific VI evaluations and modeling following these steps:

o Choosing and documenting appropriate soil borings based on contaminant distribution and hydrogeologic and building characteristics.

o Interpreting soil and documenting boring information to define soil strata inputs to VI model (depths of sand, silt, loam, clay) and modeling analysis.

o Exploring and documenting appropriate spatial and temporal groundwater soil characteristics with regards to the impact of VI on potential median and reasonable maximum exposures.

o Working closely with broader team staff to develop figures and maps.

o Define building-specific limitations and uncertainties

Provide an expert review of the sites Public Health Assessment and Technical Supplements.

Explaining effects of soil strata on groundwater contaminant migration towards/away from buildings

Providing analysis of spatiotemporal trends and data visualization


Qualifications

Requires 10 to 12 years with BS/BA or 8 to 10 years with MS/MA or 5 to 7 years with PhD.

Qualifications Required:

Hydrogeologist subject matter expertise investigating groundwater contamination.

Subject matter expertise with soil VI evaluations and modeling.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must

Experience supporting a Public Health Agency is preferred

Experience with NAPL behavior

Aerobic/anaerobic biodegradation experience a plus

Johnson & Ettinger (J&E) and Biovapor model experience a plus

At least 10 years experience in this field.

Ability to obtain National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation clearance

Education:

BS/BA in related field.
