Aramark Canadas' Human Resources Team is looking for an energetic and driven HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced work environment. As a day-to-day partner with the business, the Human Resource Manager based at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, works alongside the Resident District Manager providing HR leadership, expertise and support in the areas of engagement, change management, employee and labor relations, talent management, workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, leadership development,  and HR policy administration and compliance.  



Employee and Union Relations

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and Provincial Employment legislation
  • Ensure collective agreement terms and conditions are followed and provide guidance to managers on interpretation of collective agreement
  • Provide information and assistance in collective agreement negotiations
  • Provide counsel on progressive discipline and performance management issues
  • Conduct Investigations (Hotline, Human Rights, BCP Violations, associate complaints/issues), develop and implement recommendations
  • Implement, communicate and ensure compliance to all company and client policies and procedures
  • Conduct investigations in a timely, thorough and confidential manner
  • Provide recommendations pending investigation and support legal matters as required
  • Work closely with the Labour Relations teams to resolve grievances and deal with LR related matters

Health and Safety

  • Ensure operations managers and supervisors adhere to all OH&S programs, policies and practices and partner with our H&S team to arrange adequate training
  • Audit Joint Health and Safety Committee activities to ensure adherence such as: meeting minutes, accident investigations, posting requirements, workplace inspections, etc.
  • Provide advice on claims management and return to work for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses

Talent Management:

  • Take an active role in succession planning and workforce planning initiatives
  • Provide direction and guidance to management in the annual performance appraisal process
  • Assist in salary review process for all non-union and union hourly and salaried associates
  • Provide leadership and facilitate activities that will build and enhance employee engagement and retention
  • Actively participate in People Planning initiatives to ensure assigned portfolio has appropriate bench strength for projected growth
  • Support development plans of high potential employees

Recruiting, Selection and Retention

  • Support recruitment and retention strategies of hourly associates
  • Partner with the corporate Talent Acquisition team for the recruitment of salaried and management associates
  • Coach managers on conducting mass orientation and onboarding for hourly employees
  • Analyze exit interview trends and develop action plans
  • Onboard and orient all new and returning salaried employees on HR practices and policies
  • Coach managers to ensure associates receive proper training appropriate for their position e.g. Health and Safety, WHMIS, HCMS, Cash Handling
  • Support recruitment planning and activities for peak periods


  • Ideal candidates will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a Human Resource Generalist role
  • Experience in Food Service, Hospitality, Retail or Quick Serve Operations is an asset
  • Human Resource experience must include labour relations and competency with a unionized workforce
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities
  • Strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information
  • Professionalism and diplomacy with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytic skills and problem-solving ability
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter and ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Multi-tasking with the ability to remain calm during high volume periods
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications is desired.
  • Must own a vehicle and have a drivers license in good standing
