The Health Equity Director of an is a pivotal role, executing Physician Executive Council (PEC) clinical priorities: external clinical brand, health equity and social responsibility. This leader will be responsible for linking experience, partnership and research with equity; creating a culture of equity and social responsibility; and promoting Optum's external clinical to the care delivery organizations (CDOs) in addition to external stakeholders. The Director will ensure we support UnitedHealth Group's mission around health equity and social responsibility, as Optum Care delivers on the Quadruple Aim for our patients and physicians/providers.  This position includes a variety of functions related to the general management and general business operations within the Office for Provider Advancement.

 

Reporting to the Chief of the Office for Provider Advancement (OPA) within Optum's Clinical Performance. The Office for Provider Advancement focuses on making Optum Care the best place to work for the physicians and providers of the entire care team, ensuring they have what they need to deliver the best care possible to our patients. The OPA's work is determined through clinical governance and focuses on clinical outcomes research, physician/provider and patient experience, physician development and partnership, and an equitable, responsible culture. 

 

As the Director will provide guidance and strategic thinking to other Pillar Leads: OCRI Director, Experience Senior Director, and Partnership Senior Director. This Director is responsible for ensuring the OPA carries out PEC priorities around health equity, social responsibility and external clinical brand. By implementing tenets of equitable care within OPA's clinical initiatives and programs, Optum Care will bring delivery of care to the CDO level that is equitable and responsible, while also promoting the external clinical brand of Optum. Having equitable care does not mean treating every patient exactly the same. Instead, equitable care ensures optimal outcomes for all patients regardless of their background or circumstances, especially the color of their skin. 

 

This role will have direct oversight over project/program manager(s) working specifically on PEC priorities related to external clinical brand, health equity and social responsibility. Additionally, the Director will support OPA's clinical governance work and other duties as determined by the Chief of the OPA. The Director is responsible for management and administration of multiple functions, or management of general business operations for this line of work and business segment. Manage daily operations of multiple levels of staff and multiple functions/departments across one or more business units. May include day to day operations, management leadership internal and external to organization, accountable for financial and non-financial results (budgets and actuals). Project management and implementation, staff management.

 

Generally, work is generally prescribed by the Chief of the OPA and Optum Care's Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This role will have direct oversight over project/program managers working specifically on PEC priorities related to external clinical brand, health equity and social responsibility. Additionally, the Director will support OPA's clinical governance work and other duties as determined by the Chief of the OPA. Provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance and results through multiple layers of management and senior level professional staff. Impact of work is most often at national level and is responsible for a major portion of a business segment, functional area or line of business.
