UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing technology solutions to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. UW-IT is currently looking for a Full-Stack Developer who will support the UW-IT work on Finance Transformation, the Universitys large-scale project to modernize its finance operations, business systems and processes. The position is a role in the newly established UW-IT FT program (ITF).

The Full Stack Developer will have responsibility to contribute toward implementation of a large development effort with the new Finance system Workday's Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) system. A disperse set of systems that will need to be updated to handle and address the changing needs of the finance process across the University of Washington. This position will work closely with business and technical teams to ensure that correct functionality is developed and allows the university to continue financial operations. This position will need to translate Finance requirements into Workday functionality. The Full Stack Developer will develop solutions using a standard quality driven approach. The position will escalate gaps or trade-offs in designs across technical and non-technical audiences using effective communication skills. The Full Stack Developer will participate in recommending the most effective and efficient solution design over the course of the project implementation. This position also collaborates with peers and others to improve practices, processes, and tools for development, testing, and versioning, continuous integration, automated release and deployment of service changes, and operations and monitoring.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in computer science, information science, or a related field
  • Four years' experience performing progressively more complex and responsible tasks involving development and support of enterprise applications and services
  • Proficient C#, .NET and .Net framework with recent experience developing Web APIs
  • Experience in cloud application design such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience with serverside and clientside (such as: Javascript and Json, NodeJS, React, Lambda, Angular, Amazon SQS)
  • Experience integrating Web applications and services with middleware services
  • Experience within a software development lifecycle, including DevOps practices
  • Experience with code versioning, branching, and release methodologies
  • Experience with SQL, query design and data normalization
  • Strong acumen for software testing; commitment to quality
  • Understanding of secure design and coding practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; able to design creative and pragmatic solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and skills
  • Demonstrated written/oral communication skills, user liaison skills and personal interaction abilities
  • An effective team player who enjoys collaboration

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED:

  • Experience in Higher Education, preferably at a major research (R1) university
  • Knowledge of IT accessibility issues for users with disabilities; familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices; experience testing for accessibility; and demonstrated ability to design content/applications with accessibility considerations
  • Experience with open source development projects
  • Experience with Agile development practices, including test-driven development
  • Experience utilizing Terraform for cloud infrastructure management
  • Experience with automation of component deployment, scaling and updates with Ansible and Docker
  • Experience designing and building REST Web services
  • Experience with search engines. ElasticSearch preferred
  • Experience with Continuous Integration & Deployment (CI/CD) tools - TravisCI
  • Experience using enterprise metadata to control application and service behavior
  • Experience implementing data access and application security policies
  • Familiar with software architecture patterns (e.g. MVC)
  • Experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure
  • Expertise with caching and load-balancing

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    This recruitment will fill additional openings.

    Work in an open office environment. This position involves responsibilities and occasional situations where work outside of standard business hours is required to respond to incidents or to meet critical deadlines. Work in an open office environment.

    This position on the Finance Transformation Project is temporarily funded; continued employment is contingent on ongoing funding and performance.

    This position is eligible for flexible remote work.
