Provide support for the Medical Oncology service line which includes, evaluation and coordination of patient assistance programs, coordination and scheduling of patients for financial interviews and financial counseling. Interfaces with insurance plans for benefit limits and patients estimated out of pocket expense. Serves as a liaison related to patient billing disputes; charity care applications and eligibility; and departmental policies and procedures. Obtains pre-certifications and authorizations for treatments ordered by medical oncology included chemotherapy, radiology services, biopsies, etc. Works closing with billing company to ensure timely claim and account follow-up.

Primary Responsibilities:

    ""
  • Daily scheduled and unscheduled meetings with patients to include new patients for the purpose of discussing coverage, benefits, if there is a need for assistance or to set up payment plans
  • ""
  • Assist patients with insurance questions or denials
  • ""
  • Coordinate with the patient, physician, insurance company, and hospital on the completepre-certification / authorization process
  • ""
  • Make and answer telephone calls from patients and insurance companies regarding thepre-certification / authorization process
  • ""
  • Discuss payment arrangements with patients for outstanding patient balances
  • ""
  • Assess patient need for outside assistance with medical care payments and if so, what programs might be available for individual patients, i.e. pharmaceutical, copay assistance, etc.
  • ""
  • Establish payment arrangements with the patient and document appropriately in thepractice management system co-insurance assistance, etc.
  • ""
  • Review patient chemotherapy protocols and determine insurance benefits and patientresponsibility
  • ""
  • Work with billing company on denied, no authorization, no referral claims, and provides feedback and follow up to clinical areas
  • ""
  • Verify eligibility and benefits for all new patients and existing patients receiving treatment
  • ""
  • Properly document appropriate information in the patient's EMR
  • ""
  • Process additional information requests and coordinate requests for letters of medical necessityfrom and to insurance companies
  • ""
  • Direct day to day contact with Providers to assure treatments are approved before administering
  • ""
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • ""
  • 2+ years of experience in insurance operations and/or back office Medical Oncology practice experience
  • ""
  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctors diagnosis of disease
  • ""
  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role
  • ""
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive VoiceResponse (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained
