Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, founded in 1986, is an 82 bed facility within the city of Norfolk, Virginia. Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health offers comprehensive mental health programs in Virginia. We are a Universal Health Services facility that provides psychiatrically and medically managed acute, residential treatment, and partial hospitalizationfor children and adolescents with significant impairments in their social and emotional development.

We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need using quality, evidence based practice treatments. We are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is seeking a dynamic and Health Information Management Clerk.

Position Scope:

Sorts patients clinical/medical information alphabetically, chronologically, and by unit; and files information in clinical records per company guidelines. Copies reports and prepares information for mailing in accordance with release of information company policies and procedures. Assembles and analyses discharged patients records.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs chart assembly and analysis to ensure 100% compliance.
  2. Process releases of information requests per company policy.
  3. Performs HIM department functions.
  4. Perform audits and compile data for departmental reporting.

Needs basic understanding of and comfort level with medical terminology, acute/residential treatment, clinical science/pathology and psychiatric disorders. Must know how to gather and analyze data. Must be articulate, assertive, and able to communicate effectively with families, payers, therapists and physicians both verbally and in writing. Must also demonstrate initiative, tact and good judgment. Must have basic computer skills.

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required.

Experience:

One year general office or clerical experience preferably in a health care setting.

PhysicalRequirements:

Must have normal auditory processing. The incumbent is seated and talking on the phone or using a computer 50% of time.

Must have organizational skills, eye-hand coordination, strong attention to detail, and meet theprocess document standards.
