The Breakthrough Innovation team is a relatively new endeavor for PepsiCo as we prioritize acceleration of Growth in white spaces PepsiCo does not play in today. The new structure utilizes a series of HUBs that sit in the create market (US in this case) to enable speed and tight BU alignment. What Youll Do As the Design Innovation Director in the US HUB on the Global Design Innovation Group you will play a critical role in setting the breakthrough innovation strategy for the US. You will also contribute to execute retail market labs or other test and learn opportunities for new breakthrough innovation items to gain critical learnings as we define the scalable solution for the organization in US and beyond. This role will partner closely with the cross-functional US team to set up the right scalable solution and help commercialize for the market ensuring that the breakthrough innovation item is successfully launched. In this role youll report into the Global VP of Design Innovation and work in collaboration with other Global and Regional design leaders to effectively develop and deliver design strategies and compelling design experiences (i.e. brand, product, packaging, retail, merchandising) that add strategic business value. You will partner with a team of Design Innovation and Brand Design experts to drive the Design activities in line with the cross-functional team workplan in identifying Horizon 1 solutions and conduct validation work in the market and beyond. You will contribute to identify Horizon 2 & Horizon 3 solutions with the Discovery team, and will facilitate integration within the US HUB cross-functional team. You will develop and deliver effective design strategies & holistic design solutions in partnership with key business leaders that deliver against business goals while managing highly complex assignments and concurrent initiatives across varied project types. You will design the flow and collaboration principles to drive optimal collaborative work in introducing new solutions in market, as well as shape and build the optimal workplan with the cross-functional team, particularly focusing on Brand Strategy, Brand Design and Design Research. You will generate creative design proposals (visions, scenarios, concepts) in order to visualize the desired output and share it with internal and external team members. Working in collaboration with the VP Design at PFNA, you will develop/adapt visual brand identity for specific brands in the portfolio, cutting across brand, product, packaging, marketing equipment, and advertising. You will bring an outside perspective on content and promote the new and agile approach to the cross functional team and stakeholders at the local HUB level. You should be comfortable managing the ambiguity inherent in design processes, methodologies, tools, techniques, and design proposals (visions, scenarios) in order to plan creative engagements and visualize the desired creative output. You will elevate design thinking and 3 lenses thinking, which underpins all our engagements, pollinate design thinking through practical design methodologies, solving complex branding problems and uncovering transformation opportunities to help brands get the most out of their design investments. You should be able to handle a high volume of work and complexity across brands and business territories to deliver in market according to established KPIs Strategic Leadership: Design Strategy encompasses brand strategy, design planning, and project management to ensure the design team functions at optimal strength and capacity. Working on projects that have critical business significance, you will demonstrate the agility to lead strategy, planning, project management. You should be familiar with working in a multi-disciplinary eco-system in a matrixed work environment. Youll partner closely with the VP of Design Innovation and working alongside the marketing team to identify, sell-in, and lead projects. This role engages closely with a variety of stakeholders to get input and assess options. Youll be working across all aspects of strategic design development, leading opportunity identification projects to design strategies for new brands or product innovation opportunities. Youll guide and advise a team through the Design Thinking & Innovation process to ensure that identified opportunities & design strategies result in sustainable growth and returns for the business. Qualifications/Requirements 12+ years of experience, with a minimum of 5 years (recent) in a market implementation design role Degree(s) in Industrial/Product Design, Architecture, Engineering, Advertising/Branding, Design Strategy Preferred Qualifications: MBA or Master's degree preferred. Proven experience in Brand Strategy, Design Strategy, Innovation & Product Development. Proven track record of strong leadership, team management skills and a strategic acumen Superior project management and design management skills; attention to detail Compelling presentation and proposal skills Proven ability to multi-task, work in ambiguous and dynamic work environment; is comfortable with taking risks Must be willing and able to travel 20% of the time (post Covid) Be an inspiring leader, both within and outside of the design organization Know how to translate business needs into actionable processes and solutions Draw on diverse perspectives to solve design problems and drive effective solutions Articulate design vision through prototyping, scenario modeling, strategic roadmaps, etc. Collaborate closely with researchers, marketers, media teams to cross-pollinate ideas, methods, and approaches Build and evolve methodologies, nurture the maturity of the design & innovation capabilities Provide mentorship and support the professional development to team members Effectively influence across all levels in the organization; across regions and functions; can get things done through formal and informal channels Navigating tradeoffs and creating solutions Finding solutions that meet system goals team, consumer, competition, customers, internal stakeholders Calm and balanced personality Ability to ease tension and deal with difficulties and setbacks with calm and ease Empathetic Can build a clear understanding of others needs internal (other functions) or external (customers, consumers, partners, agencies) to PepsiCo Relocation Eligible: Eligible for Standard Relocation Job Type: Regular All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, or disability status.
