We are seeking a Director of Analytics for our Health Economics & Outcomes Research team to drive new insights and lead sophisticated analytic plans to develop innovative solutions that enhance healthcare delivery. You will work closely with our team of clinical experts, research scientists and business leaders to answer challenging research questions and translate them into actionable results. You will apply advanced statistical and machine learning methodologies in support of novel products for the healthcare system. The candidate will leverage advanced statistical modeling and computational methods to prototype new data driven patient and provider solutions, and partner with the R&D clinical and research groups to capitalize on promising strategies.

We are seeking experienced analysts with a wide range of deep methodological and clinical domain expertise however we have significant interest in individuals with backgrounds in health services research, economic modeling, and outcomes research.

Primary Responsibilities:

    ""
  • Provides senior consultation to OptumLabs, United and Optum businesses
  • ""
  • Defines and leads strategies to advance the quality of HEOR deliverables and efficiency of HEOR processes. Has management responsibilities and/or provides thought leadership in a specific methodologic or clinical area
  • ""
  • Develops statistical models using healthcare data sources (e.g., claims, EMR, etc.), including primary data collected via survey and novel data sources such as data collected from wearables, smartphone data, web-traffic data, and beyond, to detect disease and promote early intervention
  • ""
  • Designs and conducts statistical analysis to inform new research directions and business opportunities
  • ""
  • Provides healthcare data and statistics subject matter expertise to support the clinical and research scientists in the design, conduct, and execution of analysis, and interpretation of results
  • ""
  • Builds relationships and collaborates with internal and external partners to promote thought leadership and broaden UnitedHealth Group's external influence
  • ""
  • Leads strategies to advance the quality of HEOR deliverables and efficiency of HEOR processes
  • ""
  • Collaborates within cross-disciplinary research teams including business-facing leaders and expert domain scientists
  • ""
  • Provides recommendations and guidance to project leads based on insights gleaned from data
  • ""
  • Communicates effectively and clearly to a range of audiences, from domain scientists to business professionals
  • ""
  • Teaches and mentors others at the graduate level in the field. Recruits and trains master level and doctoral scientists for leadership positions
  • ""
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously

Required Qualifications:

    ""
  • Graduate degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Health Services Research, Epidemiology, Health Economics, or related field
  • ""
  • 5+ years research and project leadership experience
  • ""
  • 8+ years of research experience with claims data, EHR, and other observational research data assets
  • ""
  • Demonstrated expertise in HEOR.
  • ""
  • Experience applying a broad range of statistical, mathematical, and/or computational approaches to test hypotheses
  • ""
  • Proficiency in model-building language such as SAS. R and Python
  • ""
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and database structures and proficiency in SQL
  • ""
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to organize project support teams to achieve project goals and outcomes
  • ""
  • Receptive to peer review and able to work collaboratively
  • ""
  • Experience working in the healthcare industry
  • ""
