The Director is a highly client-facing senior leader within Optum Advisory Services (OAS) Strategic Management Office, serving both internal and external payer and provider clients. You will work with health care consulting professionals who deliver and translate objectives into actions; then work to convert those actions into measurable results. We support experts in health plan administration, data analytics, population health management, strategy and system and integration services. The Strategic Management Office (SMO) supports all areas of OAS with top talent project delivery resources with skills in areas such as project management, change management, process engineering, organizational design and solution analysis.

Success in this role requires client facing consulting experience and problem solving. Travel may be required based on the client engagement.

  • Overall project lead across high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements with ability to actively manage multiple teams and workstreams on large scale, high risk, high complexity programs
  • ""
  • Principal point of day to day contact for client executive and establishes optimal communication cadence with C-Suite executives
  • ""
  • Ability to lead and drive successful program execution in a highly complex matrixed organization
  • ""
  • Focuses on project economics and directs team to follow practices needed to ensure both quality and profitability including close monitoring of actual vs. expected team utilization

  • Ability to manage risk mitigation and escalation successfully

  • Demonstrate strong relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations

  • Contribute to business development efforts - both add-on work as well as new business

  • Act in a management consultant role to help clients understand and solve their unique operational and technology challenges

  • Seek out and develop new business while working with the client to define a solution, resulting in statements of work

  • Effectively build and maintain relationships with internal and external clients

  • Identify opportunities for sales and business development collaboration with other UHG business segments

  • Provide leadership to project teams and direct reports to include coaching, counseling, performance review, conflict resolution, staffing

  • Ensure quality assurance methods are implemented within the program

  • Provide status updates and review of programs to client senior leadership team and/or project sponsors

Required Qualifications:

    ""
  • Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of relevant consulting experience OR an advanced degree and 6+ years of relevant consulting experience
  • ""
  • 7+ years of enterprise project/program management experience and leading a project team
  • ""
  • 7+ years of experience working in a professional consulting organization
  • ""
  • 7+ years of experience leading large-scale consulting engagements or large internal healthcare projects/programs
  • ""
  • 5+ years of experience leading a team of direct reports
  • ""
  • Client relationship management experience
  • ""
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • ""
  • Ability to travel domestically, up to 60%-80%, Actual travel may vary by engagement**
  • ""

  • Graduate level degree in business or healthcare

  • 10+ years of enterprise project/program management experience and leading a project team

  • Experience developing new business and identifying add-on work within your existing engagement

  • Experience generating at least $1M annually in new sales.

  • Management consulting firm experience
  • ""
  • Experience in healthcare consulting (Payer or Provider)
  • ""
  • Experience leading strategic initiatives and/or strategy work
  • ""
  • Experience managing projects that achieved budget and timeline goals
  • ""
  • Experience working in and successfully navigating a matrixed environment
  • ""
  • Experience mentoring junior level staff and leading direct reports
  • ""
  • Possess analytical reasoning and solution-focus problem solving skills

  • Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
