Suncoast Behavioral Health Center is a private, acute inpatient psychiatric facility designed to provide quality services in a supportive environment to children, adolescents and adults.

The Hospital is looking for a Director of Admissionwho will be responsible for directing the Admissions Department activities at the facility. As a clinician, this position provides direction to a staff of Specialists in the provision of psychiatric assessment services, including clinical evaluations, crisis intervention, and referrals. This position interfaces closely with the medical staff, fellow department heads and administration, treatment team/external case managers/managed care organizations, functions as a liaison with other hospital intake departments.

Job Requirements

Education: Masters degree from an accredited university in a clinical area, such as counseling, social work or RN licensure (Bachelors or Master's) from an accredited school.

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years direct clinical experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting desirable. Working knowledge of the Addiction and Recovery field and experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities, and working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.

License/Certification: RN, LSCW, LMHC, LMFT required.

Skills: Above average communication skills, high level of initiative, motivation, independent judgement and organizational skills. Ability to relate to those emotionally disturbed and in crisis.

Admissions Services
1. Directs the screening of potential patients for admission into the program and initiate the integrated assessment process.
2. As a clinician, assists administration, physicians and clinical staff in the assessment of pending
admits to determine appropriateness of level of care and communicates pending admissions to the Nursing Department.
3. With the assistance of the psychiatrist, use the approved admission criteria and make decisions concerning the level of care for treatment using the least restrictive level appropriate. The plan for episode of care is initiated at admission to all levels of care.
4. Monitors all intake/appointment information calls 24 hours a day and prepares appropriate forms.
5. Functions as a liaison between physicians and families, coordinates with transportation services
and other mental health facilities to organize the admission procedures.
6. Plans, coordinates and evaluates direct and indirect facility assessments and patient admissions.
7. Ensures that all vital patient assessment information is referred accurately to the attending
physicians, and that patient historical information obtained is complete to facilitate
an accurate determination for the appropriate level of care.
8. Communicate with external reviewers and referral sources. Conduct all required external reviews and maintain documentation of all such interaction.
9. Ensure that referral sources are notified of, or participate in, decisions about appropriate transitions between levels of care.
10. Coordinates activities to provide the community with resources and referrals.
11. Prepares morning meeting reports to communicate pertinent census information, referral sources, pending admissions and follow-up action pending admissions,
pending discharges and nature of discharge.
12. Provides guidance to community resources available to person inappropriate or unavailable for admission but who are requiring further guidance and referrals.

Professional Collaboration
1. Provide services to current referral sources to assure their satisfaction and continued associations.
2. Allocate and coordinate program resources for marketing and referral development activities.
3. Provide education, support and recognition to staff participating in referral development activities.

Utilization Review
1. Assist potential patients in gaining access to federal and state support systems.
2. Provides opportunity for physicians and prospective patients to tour the facility.
3. Consult with the business office and/or admission staff as needed to clarify data and ensure the insurance pre-certification process is complete.
4. Provide clinical precertification information to patients, managed care companies, insurance companies and other third party reviewers to establish the length of stay or number of certified days.

Personnel Management and Staffing
1. Maintain and allocate a well-qualified core of staff resources.
2. Assure that hiring, disciplinary actions and termination procedures are conducted in accordance with hospital policies.
3. Involve appropriate facility management in all decisions, and review these decisions with CEO prior to implementation.
4. Assure adequate supervision and evaluation processes for all staff members and delegate these responsibilities as appropriate.
5. Provide for educational needs and professional development of staff.
6. Ensure that the staff schedule and configuration will meet the needs and demands of the patient population and census and adjust it accordingly.
7. Ensure an adequate system of communication and reporting is maintained between all staff members, as well as other departments involved in the ongoing operation of the program.
8. Create a structure that best meets the needs of the organization, particularly department organization related to supervision and assignment of staff.
9. Routinely review job assignments and utilization of staff.

Clinical Leadership
1. Conduct department meetings on a regular basis and ensure minutes are posted and available for the staff.
2. Ensure interdisciplinary treatment planning is organized with participation of all appropriate clinical disciplines.
3. Ensure all patient, family and referral complaints are promptly handled.
4. Monitor and evaluate the utilization of the patient satisfaction survey, and evaluate trends.
5. Coordinate the collection of outcome data within the corporate deadline.

Continuous Quality Improvement
1. Ensure that a system is developed to provide continuity of care and communication with family and appropriate referral sources, and ensure the system is evaluated and reviewed regularly.
2. Evaluate the achievement of program goals and objectives with appropriate staff on a regular basis.
3. Ensure the department meets JCAHO, Medicare and federal and state regulatory requirements.
4. Develop and implement a Performance Improvement Plan, evaluate the results monthly, and report results to the Corporate Performance Improvement Committee in a timely manner.
5. Ensure that all deficiencies identified through the performance improvement analysis are addressed with appropriate problem solving actions.
6. Review all risk management occurrence and ensure that complete and timely reports are submitted to Risk Management.
7. Analyze statistical data of the program to determine and respond to trends.

1. Assist with planning and teaching staff development programs.
2. Maintains a record of attendance to meet expected standards.
3. Serves on Facility Committees as assigned.

5. Demonstrates a professional attitude and supports the objectives of the Facility's marketing and guest relations philosophy through internal and external communications and interactions with all levels of staff, patients, family members, guests, community and referral sources.
6. Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
7. Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
8. Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
9. Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
10. Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.

Physical Requirements: Medium demand, mentally. Requires extensive time sitting, writing, and talking on telephone. Ability to assist in crisis intervention, physical intervention with out of control patients.
