The Director, Executive Security is a key member of UnitedHealth Group's (UHG) Corporate Security team. The Corporate Security group is responsible for the Enterprise Workplace Security Program that facilitates the protection of the companys global workforce and physical assets through security risk management platforms. The Director, Executive Security will report to the Senior Director, Risk Management within Corporate Security.

The Director, Executive Security will be responsible for maturing, leading and operationalizing UHGs Executive Security program in line with key risks, executive protection best practices and peer standards. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to developing and executing upon a global strategy for executive protection, managing an executive security team (internal and external), coordinating with executive staff and Corporate Security partners, overseeing risk assessments, delivering training and awareness, managing incidents related to executives, and ensuring the delivery of best-in-class services for covered executives across office, residential, travel, transportation and event security.

Qualified candidates must have demonstrated leadership experience in the executive protection field (private sector and/or public sector). Candidates must be able to maintain strong internal partnerships with key business and functional stakeholders and demonstrate exceptional communications skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

    ""
  • Develop and maintain the executive protection strategy for the organization
  • ""
  • Oversee the Executive Security program globally under the leadership of the Senior Director, Risk Management and the Chief Security Officer (CSO)
  • ""
  • Oversee the development and execution of executive protection and executive travel policies, standards and SOPs across the enterprise
  • ""
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of contingency and crisis response plans related to executive protection
  • ""
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact for covered executives, executive staff and Corporate Aviation
  • ""
  • Oversee security planning and implementation for key special events involving executives; conduct advance site reviews, collect threat intelligence and provide onsite coordination with meeting planners and venue security teams
  • ""
  • Conduct office, residential and other site security reviews related to executive protection
  • ""
  • Monitor and/or oversee the monitoring of executive travel globally
  • ""
  • Manage critical incidents and security crises impacting company executives
  • ""
  • Deliver and/or oversee the delivery of appropriate security education to executives, their staff and, as needed, family members
  • ""
  • Manage executive protection vendor relationships and ensure service levels are met
  • ""
  • Coordinate with Corporate Security partners and cross-functional stakeholders with regards to office security, travel security, event security, transportation, protective intelligence, executive risk assessments and threat investigations
  • ""
  • Coordinate with global partners to ensure the standardization of executive protection services in all business locations
  • ""
  • Administer program budgets related to executive protection
  • ""
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal stakeholders
  • ""
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with executive protection partners in peer organizations and with government and law enforcement agencies
  • ""
  • Maintain a strong understanding of executive protection best practices and emerging industry trends
  • ""
  • This role requires after-hours on call availability
  • ""
  • This role requires up to 50% travel

Required Qualifications:

    ""
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • ""
  • 8+ years of private sector and/or public sector security experience to include corporate security, intelligence, law enforcement and/or military
  • ""
  • Direct operational experience in the executive security/protective services or a closely related field
  • ""
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 50%, sometimes with short notice.
  • ""
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule and some weekends as needed
  • ""

  • Armed Security Officer (ASO) certification; if not already certified, ASO certification will be required upon hire
  • ""
  • If not already certified, first aid/CPR/AED certification will be required upon hire

  • Experience leading an executive protection program and/or executive protection team
  • ""
  • Experience in special event logistics as well as travel security best practices
  • ""
  • Familiarity with corporate aviation security programs and best practices
  • ""
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities
  • ""
  • Ability to work independently with multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • ""
  • Ability to work effectively during emergency and crisis situations
  • ""
  • Superior leadership engagement, communication and presentation skills to include personal briefings
  • ""
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization
  • ""
  • Critical understanding of confidentiality and situational sensitivity
  • ""
  • Proficiency in MS Office products and investigative case management tools
  • ""
  • Bachelor's or Advanced degree in a related field
