Customer Centric Innovation (CCI) within the HBU's Commercial Development is a unique team within Pfizer. In this role you are in a position similar to an entrepreneur, you can create a product concept and seek to gain Pfizer governance endorsement to add your concept to the HBU product Pipeline. Our focus is exclusively on Breakthrough concepts which will change the standard of medical practice within a hospital channel, with a particular focus on the US market.

+ This role will provide strategic commercial and operational guidance globally for pre-Pipeline assets. This role is critical because once a pre-Pipeline asset is identified and endorsed by governance, considerable resources will be invested into this asset.

+ The role works in close coordination with in-market commercial leads, R&D leads, Regulatory leads, Legal (Intellectual Property) and PGS leads to mutually gain consensus on advancing concepts.

+ The role will work with cross functional teams to maximize value and drive expanded revenue for the asset. They will generate market and customer insights in often ambiguous market spaces to identify the critical success factors and shape the launch strategies.

+ The role will leverage a broad set of skills: intellectual curiosity, US market & hospital channel knowledge, mining ambiguous data sources, leveraging rapid market research tools, building a coalition amongst diverse internal stakeholders (e.g. R&D, Medical, Regulatory, Legal, PGS, local teams) and finally building a full business case to convince senior management to allocate funds to your concept.

+ Pfizer Hospital (HBU) reports in to the Pfizer Biopharmaceutical Group and includes the i) legacy Sterile Injectables (SI) business ii) the Anti-infectives business and iii) additional legacy Pfizer and Hospira hospital brands.

+ This role will focus on the part of the HBU strategy which will add Innovation assets to the HBU portfolio. CCI is a key strategic growth pillar for HBU providing opportunity for leadership and development.

+ The Director role will be directly responsible for driving profitable growth in the long term within the Value-Added segment. Value-added identifies molecules with known MOAs which can be combined with new delivery technologies to drive value for hospital customers.


+ Maximizing the value of key product lines by implementing clear long-term strategy for the SI portfolio, including multi-generational product improvement roadmaps for new pipeline and marketed products

+ Responsible for identifying and initiating new programs

+ Plan strategy for new pipeline and global expansion products with the appropriate global and regional marketing counterparts

+ Responsible for Customer Centric Innovation (CCI) - new idea generation through close connections with healthcare professionals and KOLs.

+ Works closely with sales and portfolio organizations in the US to generate customer inputs.

+ Runs analytics and delivers full financial P&Ls for funding requests

+ Lead competitive intelligence to maintain an updated perspective and deep understanding of the target space, including branded and generic competitors, payer strategies.

+ Leverage market research when appropriate.

+ Interacts with and influences a broad range of functions involved with the development and commercialization of SI products, including R&D, clinical, regulatory, quality, operations, global/regional commercial, finance, and legal functions to ensure that product development activities are coordinated and supported

+ Proactively communicates issues and challenges, and works to remove barriers to success

+ Ensures the interests of the sales and marketing organizations are represented in the appropriate corporate and regional initiatives

+ Monitors the market, competitors, and trends in the global sterile injectables space

+ Substitute for CCI Team Lead as appropriate.

+ Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.


+ Degree in life sciences (Masters or Doctorate preferred)

+ Entrepreneurial, creative professional with technical curiosity. Track record of unmet need identification, idea creation, business case development and project execution.

+ At least 10 year of commercial healthcare industry experience (could include: branded pharmaceuticals, generic products, medical devices, over the counter or relevant CPG products).

+ At least 10 years of experience with product development and/or commercialization.

+ Experience as commercial leader of pre-clinical or clinical trials to support product development.

+ Experience in customer centric life cycle management.

+ Experience with planning and executing complicated multi-market research programs.

+ Exceptional presentation skills and an ability to influence large cross matrix organization. Demonstrated ability to effectively distill a large amount of complex customer, clinical, market, and technical data from multiple sources into a clear product value proposition and to articulate and communicate this value proposition to a range of customer and internal audiences.

+ Deep understanding of the multi-source pharmaceutical business and industry dynamics. Knowledge of pricing and access dynamics and product cost structure in the healthcare industry.

+ Strong analytical skills with experience in financial forecasts/modeling. Ability to build business cases and financial models.

+ Demonstrated customer-centric mindset and ability to understand HCP needs. Experience in interacting with physicians and nurses and distilling the voice of the customer.

+ Ability to effectively cope with changes, act decisively without complete information and be comfortable with risk and uncertainty.

+ Experience with combination-drug-devices (preferred).
