Pfizer's Digital Solutions and Enablement (DSE) team develop, launch and support all externally facing digital (web, mobile, omni-channel, & device) products, platforms, services, and experiences, servicing all external customer types at Pfizer.

As a DSE Engineering Lead you will lead a development team working on digital experiences for one of our customer types: Patients and Caregivers, Healthcare Professionals, organized customers like Hospitals or Pharmacies, or internal Pfizer colleagues.

You will lead a high performing team of developers and testers, working primarily with agile methodologies, but occasionally waterfall or hybrid as warranted. You will be responsible for the technical approach, strategy and all technical outputs needed to deliver the solution/product vision and the underlying business needs.

You will work closely with the product and solution owners, client partners, architects, scrum masters, project managers, developers, testers, vendors and Platform DevOps teams to accomplish your team's and the organization's goals.

You will work alongside and collaborate with other platform, project and product Engineers, ensuring your technical deliverables meet all applicable DSE standards on application design, testing, quality and security.



+ As an Engineering Lead / Senior Developer specializing in Front end frameworks such as Vue or Angular, you will consult on and deliver complex microservice driven applications primarily but not exclusively leveraging Pfizer's Static Site + Web Component + Cloudflare worker architecture (Termed "NextGen") plus our underlying Design System (Helix). This stack powers many of Pfizer's newest web properties and is a core capability being developed for the future.

+ You will collaborate with similar roles on related technology stacks and platforms within the organization including those working with Laravel, Hybrid-Mobile (Ionic), Marketo, Mulesoft, AWS, Azure, SharePoint and Native iOS/Android.

+ You will not only ensure your team's technical deliverables meet all applicable DSE standards regarding application design, testing, quality and security, but also be required to deliver your own code using these technologies.


Your primary responsibilities will be providing deep technical knowledge and solid technical leadership for your team as well as hands on coding. You will be accountable for ensuring that all product and solution objectives are delivered and aligned to global strategies. This role will also be responsible for contract technical delivery resources.

This means:

+ You will need a good understanding of the technical landscape, both inside and outside of Pfizer. People will rely on your "hands on" subject matter expertise in our foundational technologies.

+ Therefore, you are responsible for the technical design, development, release management, code quality and security of the solutions/products assigned to your team. You will have autonomy within the boundaries of our standards and roadmaps to make all the technical design decisions for the products and solutions that you will be delivering.

+ As well as being recognized as a technical Subject Matter Expert, success in this role will require you to understand the needs of the business and be able to successfully use this knowledge in your day to day decision-making. You should be very proactive in improving your business knowledge and understanding of the internal/external best practices and marketplace so that you can spot and recommend opportunities and improvements to what we do.

+ As well as these technology peers, you will collaborate with Pfizer Digital leads, client partners and business stakeholders to develop ideas and deliver innovative solutions to complex business problems. As before, you will only be successful if you are able to leverage expertise and resources across multiple teams and areas.

+ You will use your knowledge of industry standards and your own experience to ensure that security is a key part of projects from the beginning and that your team fully embraces a DevSecOps and shift-left on security mentality.

+ You will be very comfortable with innovation and taking risks, agile methodologies, leveraging your development resources to implement innovative ideas/processes/ products. You will be able to guide and influence your team and stakeholders on acceptable levels of risk-taking to achieve results.

+ You will set the technical objectives for one or more scrum teams. In collaboration with a Team Lead, you will be responsible for skills management of the technical resources on the team and ensuring that the talent pool is appropriate for current and future needs.

+ You will have the experience to be able to drive cost savings through effective estimation, vendor selection and negotiation.


+ Bachelor of Science degree required preferably in; Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology Management or relevant disciplines.

+ Minimum of 7 years experience in the software development industry serving as an information technology professional in roles such as: a software architect and developer, systems engineer, computer engineer, engineering lead, technical team lead. Experience managing teams including the financials of contract or colleague resources. Developing increasing responsibility in an engineering lead related role.

+ Minimum of 5 years recognized experience with front end Javascript frameworks such as Angular or Vue, creating complex front end applications, user experiences and interactions. Deep and broad experience working and integrating with back end infrastructures at enterprise scale.

+ Demonstrable experience operating in a DevOps environment and able to bring real experience of what works (and what doesn't work) to our teams.

+ Demonstrable experience of modern software engineering, including coding standards, code reviews, test practices, and releasing.

+ Demonstrable experience of RESTful APIs, integration and microservice patterns.

+ Demonstrable experience of data modeling, common application architectures, cloud development, CI/CD practices, and able to lead software engineers in these areas.

+ Demonstrable understanding of source control using git.

+ Demonstrable understanding of object-oriented programming.

+ Experience with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence) and GitHub is an asset.


As above and including Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent practical work experience in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology Management or relevant disciplines.

+ Ability to work with others in a constructive and collaborative manner & influence resources outside of the immediate span of control.

+ Ability to lead in a complex, matrix environment (multiple reporting lines and collaborations), with geographically distributed resources.

+ Detail oriented, persistent, strong desire to produce quality applications focused on user experience.

+ Ability to take a systematic approach to estimation of technical projects.

+ Excellent skills in analysis, critical thinking and planning, oral and written communication, consensus building, facilitation, negotiation and the ability to readily learn a new business area.

+ Technology solutions delivery in a pharmaceutical or regulated environment a bonus.


Expectations around travel will vary but you will need to be capable of travel within the region and to other regions.

Our business is a 7x24x365 endeavor. This role may on occasion require physical or virtual participation on a weekend, holiday, or after normal business hours.

Candidates located within commuting distance of a Pfizer office preferred as our product teams are likely to co-locate on occasion and it will be important to be able to be face to face up to 3 days a week as and when this happens.
