Designs a complete and complex framework, system or product. Defines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility. Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment, or other hardware systems and/or electrical engineering applications. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. Conceives system interfaces and business application prototypes. Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses. Influences the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems. Provides multi-layered technical expertise for next generation initiatives.
The responsibilities of this role include:
\tWorking independently with little supervision.
\tMay provide supervision to direct reports.
\tMaking decisions that are moderate in impact; errors may have relatively minor financial impact or affect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct.
\tUsing verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.
\tHaving a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).
\tCompleting tasks that do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.
\tExercising substantial creativity to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.
\tUsing deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.
\tOccasionally participating in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.

The responsibilities of this role do not include:
\tFinancial accountability (e.g., does not involve budgeting responsibility).

\tServes as the lead for a system of chipset design; advises others on schematics and design layouts; educates team on cross system components.
\tDevelops complex system features and components in line with proposals or roadmaps for complex products; advises less experienced engineers working together on common testing and design tasks.
\tApplies advanced system knowledge (e.g., RF, baseband), and develops or modifies methodology for electronic hardware, integrated circuitry, or platforms; applies understanding of other domains.
\tLeads complex analyses using appropriate tools (e.g., CAD); reviews analyses completed by others; identifies if an issue has occurred and assists others in addressing issues.
\tDetermines sensitivity/integrity of multiple systems or designs based on device specifications and requirements; assists other engineers in addressing any failures or gaps.
\tFacilitates collaboration between design and test engineering teams to help identify testing and define test methodologies and needs for current devices, components, and products.
\tEvaluates complex system or design features to identify potential flaws, compatibility, or compliance issues; advises less experienced engineers.
\tLeads verification of system to ensure platform is compatible and supported by appropriate systems requirements; works outside domain to make modifications to improve design quality.
\tLeads design reviews for platform development; evaluates impact of system performance based on constraints and/or capabilities; works outside domain to support design integrity.
\tDisplays deep knowledge in a specific area; acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors' products, and advances in various engineering fields from publicly available information; shares knowledge with others on their team and helps less experienced engineers understand and apply advanced concepts.
\tConducts specialized analyses (e.g., feasibility studies, signal integrity, power integrity) and reviews analyses conducted; provides guidance and feedback to junior engineers in the execution and interpretation of these analyses.
\tCoordinates schedules; works with leads in own domain to ensure schedules are kept up to date and accurate.
\tActs as a tech lead on tasks of medium scope and complexity and ensures project completion.
\tCoordinates materials, resources, and requirements to ensure alignment with product requirements; works with team lead to resolve issues in progress.
\tLeads technical conversations; identifies technical issues that affect project or other areas of overall system and synthesizes issues into an appropriate document for discussion with the appropriate audience (e.g., project lead, other team leads).

Work Experiences:

5+ years experience with circuit design (e.g., digital, analog, RF), analysis, and/or PCB layout. ,5+ years experience with hardware system validation and measurement instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools). ,1+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports (only applies to positions with direct reports). ,2+ years experience working in a large matrixed organization. ,5+ years experience with hardware system design, system integration, schematic capture, and circuit simulation software.
