ROLE SUMMARY

The Design and Technology team is responsible for design development of new medical devices and combination product platforms and integration of external technologies that make Pfizer's products easier and safer to use. The team owns deliverables and documentation that advance breakthrough concepts using principles of physics, material science, and manufacturing process know how.



Performs design and development using CAD solid modeling, tolerance analysis and engineering functional margin calculation, functional allocation of design elements, design risk analysis, and generates design output documentation such as specifications and drawings. A Design Engineer will manage external suppliers and manufacturing partners and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to realize new product development and integrate external technologies.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



+ Support the design and development of medical devices and combination products

+ Produce models and drawings using 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks)

+ Prepare prototypes for usability studies

+ Produce and approve requirement specifications for external suppliers

+ Analyze internal and supplier designs to identify areas critical to function, likely failure modes and design sensitivities.

+ Carry out tolerance analysis using RSS methodology

+ Design test rigs and challenge parts

+ Collaborate on engineering testing (laboratory-based work) to evaluate design proposals and establish functional performance characteristics and feedback results into design

+ Data analysis of test results to determine design performance and acceptability

+ Risk management assessment and mitigation, including DFMEA

+ Support supplier design reviews and Pfizer design reviews

+ Assess Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly with internal and external design teams, with a focus on design of plastic parts for injection molding

+ Create documentation to support medical device development, regulatory submission, and industrialization



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks)

+ Experience with high volume manufacturing processes, e.g. injection molding

+ Experience in product development

+ BS in Mechanical Engineering



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Medical device or combination product experience

+ MS in Mechanical Engineering



**PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS**

Physical requirements included walking, standing, and performing engineering analysis including CAD development. Includes hands on prototyping and building samples for test.
