The CNA manages the immediate milieu of patients, provides basic nursing care, aids with activities of daily living, and assists in the maintenance of a sage and clean environment, under the direction and supervision of the RN and DON.

The CNA participates in Performance Improvement Management in areas such as: patient education, staff development, team building, and program development and improvement.

Job Requirements
  1. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 2 years experience in a clinical setting.

  1. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Active CNA license in the state of Georgia

  1. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Must be able to interact positively with patients on a daily basis whose behavior may be difficult, uncooperative or aggressive.
  • Must be able to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations;
  • Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions;
  • Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principals;
  • Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures;
  • Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion;
  • Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads an work assignments on a constant basis;
  • Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  1. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
  • If working with Children, age group 4 13, Adolescents, age group 14 17, or Gero-Psychiatric patients, age group 55 or above, must be able to demonstrate special training, knowledge and skills specific to age groups, as well as job and/or program specific competency within three (3) months of hire date.
  • Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
  • Must complete all required mandatory in services annually.
  • Must be tested for Tuberculosis with a PPD skin test annually or by a chest x-ray tri-annually.
  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  2. Physical requirements include, but are not limited to the ability to communicate effectively with patients, their families, staff and others; the ability to effectively utilize communication equipment; the physical agility to manage patients (ambulatory, non-ambulatory and physically aggressive); the ability to read) i.e. patient charts, written communication, regulations, written policies and procedures, etc.); and the ability to write (i.e. manual charting, written communication, etc.)

  3. Must occasionally utilize physical ability for lifting/exerting force up to 25 lbs, reaching or stretching, crouching or stooping, tasting and smelling, and seeing for depth perception.

  4. Must frequently utilize physical ability for standing, walking, and sitting.

  5. Must regularly utilize physical ability for speaking and hearing, and seeing with correction for close, distance and peripheral vision, color discrimination and focusing ability.

  6. Mental demands include but are not limited to emotional stability, physical stamina and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.

  7. GENERAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Working conditions for all employees are as follows, but not limited to a psychiatric hospital setting; some risk involved in the event of aggressive patients(s); work load may include day, evening, night, weekend and/or holiday shifts. The CNA is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, blood borne pathogens and body fluids, and loud noise levels. Mental demands described herein are representatives of those which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, but is not limited to the ability to remain clam in a stressful environment; and the emotional stability, physical stamina and agility to handle stress and respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.

  8. GENERAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment for this position is a residential facility or day treatment school setting. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will be exposed to clients who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats regarding appearance, age sex, or race, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self-destructive behaviors. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, and may be subject to occasional local travel as required by facility needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
