The Constellation Orbit Designer Modeler develops a system constellation design for the acquisition of a space/ground constellation. The Modeler integrates the orbits of multiple satellites and determines the required mission performance, including positioning on-orbit and modeling for potential maneuvering.

Responsibilities include providing Orbit Analysis support to the following areas:

  • Perform orbital design analyses and trade studies for overhead constellations
  • Coordinate, confirm and recommend orbitology to satellite placement to meet mission requirements and forecast optimization
  • Utilize tool suites (contractor provided and in-house developed) to support the orbitology of constellations
  • Respond to contractor and systems engineering requests for collection potential, creation of data for orbital studies and reports, and support for outreach plans to explain asset adjustments
  • Leverage expertise in orbitology, mission topics, and applicable tools to support customer outreach and training initiatives


Requires 12 to 15 years with BS/BA or 10 to 13 years with MS/MA or 7 to 9 years with Ph.D.

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related discipline
  • Experience working in the Intelligence Community, preferably with a strong background in SIGINT and orbital science
  • Expertise with various remote sensing discipline
  • Experience in collection strategies, nodal placement, movement plans, and intelligence analysis experience is desired
  • Experience analyzing constellation-level system performance is desired
  • Experience evaluating and developing orbital adjustments to meet operational requirements is desired
  • Experience with orbit and mission databases is desired
  • Strong systems analysis skills, with the ability to identify and accurately describe system issues
  • Extensive domain knowledge and demonstrated understanding of user needs and operational environments
  • Familiarity with the collection management processes, specifically the workflow to translate requirements to collection tasking
  • Familiarity with payloads, and capabilities of future spacecraft
  • Basic knowledge of RF
  • High degree of computer literacy with ability to rapidly learn complex applications and data tools
  • Familiarity with STK and SOMMS
  • Familiarity with Matlab, C++, C#, Perl, or Java
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills; Demonstrated ability to clearly explain technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Customer focused and capable of representing the customer in community forums
  • Demonstrated motivation for learning and deepening of subject matter knowledge base
