The Community Relations and Marketing Manager is the primary owner and implementer of our community relations and influencer strategies and activities. The Community Relations and Marketing Manager will use those strategies to position us as an essential and necessary community asset, one that is worth the support of local leaders, businesses, residents and influencers. The role requires an innovative and energetic influencer with new and powerful ways of establishing our value to the market. This role supports both B2C and B2B marketing efforts and plays a critical role in events, whether they are for subscribers, community conversations or to drive revenue. The Community Relations and Marketing Manager is a self-starter with a deep understanding of the value of local journalism as well as strong storytelling, communication and community relations skills. The Community Relations and Marketing Manager will play a key role in developing grant and foundation support for Cox First Media journalists and journalism. The Community Relations and Marketing Manager also serves as the assistant to the Strategic Marketing Director and, as such, will spend time working on developing and executing marketing campaigns and plans. A primary key to success in this role is the ability to collaborate and lead across teams and work groups to deliver results, to partner with external organizations and be resourceful and inventive in how work is accomplished.


Job responsibilities:

Key responsibilities and percentage of time on each aspect:




* Develop and implement a multi-layered community relations strategy that includes promotional support, board and volunteer participation, community events, influencer and community connections and relationship-building

* Support and manage events to drive revenue and audience engagement for Cox First Media, and to provide additional value for subscribers and employees

* Build relationships with important community institutions and ensure trade and other support is aligned with Cox First Medias goals

* As assistant to the Strategic Marketing Director, the Community Relations Manager will partner with content, advertising, circulation and operations to execute strategies and campaigns, and will also support employee communications

* Lead efforts to seek grants, foundation support and community partnerships that help fund and support Cox First Media journalists and journalism

* Design effective and impactful presentations for Cox First Media leaders to give to community organizations and develop presentations, events and community engagement plans to establish the Dayton Daily News, Springfield News-Sun and Journal-News as community conveners and thought leaders

* Represent the company at community events and in one-on-one meetings with community stakeholders

* Manage project schedules to ensure were meeting deadlines and accomplishing goals

* Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications: Minimum Requirements




* 3+ years relevant marketing or community development experience

* A passion for and understanding of community organizations and relationships

* Appreciation of local journalism and its role in democracy

* Experience growing revenue or audience engagement through events

* Experience leading and influencing both internal teams and external partnerships

* Knowledge of growing audience and engagement in the digital space

* Familiarity with using research and metrics to drive innovation and results

* Strong communication and collaboration skills

* Deep and current knowledge of media industry dynamics

* Bachelors degree preferred

* Experience in both B2C and B2B marketing is a plus
