What You'll Do

You will join the Cloud Environments team as part of the Transformational Operations (TRON) organization. TRON has a vision and strategy of enabling outstanding, cloud native, always-on operational experiences, processes and capabilities in support of Ciscos Digital Transformation priorities.

The TRON Cloud Environments team is responsible for accelerating Cisco's transformation toward a Cloud enabled SaaS product portfolio. This team supports ever-evolving operating requirements which underpin infrastructure enablement, policy administration, solution architecture, marketplace management and FinOps best practices across cloud and hybrid data centers.

Cisco's heterogeneous landscape is comprised of both internally incubated and acquired product teams. Depending on a variety of factors such as cloud maturity, complexity of solutions, etc Cisco product teams require different levels of support and assistance across the product lifecycle from discovery through launch, iteration and optimization. The Cloud Environments Technical Team enables product teams to consume these environments efficiently, by developing and deploying frameworks, strategies, architectures and platforms to run and deliver products in the cloud at scale, securely and in compliance with Cisco policy and customer standards.

The Cloud Service Engineer is a key member of the Cloud Environments Technical Team. This team is comprised of both Cloud Service Engineers (infrastructure specialists; well-versed on hosting strategy, cloud platform administration and deployment architecture) and Cloud Developers (who focus on data, platforms and tools in support of operations and product lifecycle).

As a Cloud Service Engineer, your responsibilities as public and hybrid cloud infrastructure specialist, are to guide and support the Cisco Product Engineering teams as they navigate the journey to and within the Cloud Environments; through hosting strategy, provisioning, acquisition integration, deployment architecture reviews and risk analysis/remediation. You will assist with onboarding, and solve for technical challenges as the teams adopt the environments administered by this team, including infrastructure automation template development and maintenance, and custom scripting to implement policy compliance as needed. You will attend stand ups with the rest of the Cloud Environments Technical Team and field support tickets requesting our cloud operations services, which often means redirecting to another Cisco team (such as Security, Identify Management, etc) or partnering with the external Cloud Service Provider to solve for issues.

This is a fast paced environment and the Cloud Environments Technical Team must stay a few steps ahead of the pack and keep pace with the demanding teams who develop and deploy Cisco's products. We provide architectural and operational services for cloud products from design through release and throughout the lifecycle of the offer. This is a highly technical role requiring direct hands on administration and development. The Cloud Service Engineers (CSEs) partner with Product Engineering to influence and enable cloud native architecture optimized for delivery on any public cloud or hybrid environment.

Responsibilities include...

  • Leading Hosting Strategy discussions and influencing hosting decisions across the portfolio
  • Optimizing deployment design and operations of Ciscos public and hybrid cloud products
  • Providing technical mentorship for products designed for sales in Public Cloud Marketplaces
  • Offering guidance for acquisition integration activity and consolidation of newly acquired businesses
  • Assisting engineering product teams with critical decisions regarding public/hybrid cloud deployments on deployment design and operational optimizations
  • Provide technical support for product deployment issues in cloud throughout the product lifecycle
  • Partner with supporting internal and external infrastructure teams; facilitate interactions with the businesses
  • Partner with Cloud Environments FinOps team to align on cost model for cloud services; and interlock on architectural refactoring recommendations to optimize configuration for cost
  • Partner with public cloud providers and other 3rd party partners to enable community learning across engineering, operations and supplier community
  • Participate in the development, evolution and promotion of the framework; understand its potential intersection and impact on related solution architecture cross-functional requirements such as security
  • Develop infrastructure automation and operational integration code
  • Partner with Cloud Business Operations and FinOps teams to facilitate Cloud Platform consumption allocation chargeback activity
  • Join regular team stand ups and field tickets in support of engineering team requests and requirements
  • Evolve public and hybrid cloud administrative capabilities; develop and publish documentation and policies supporting the evolution of standard behaviors across Cisco at scale.

Who You'll Work With

You will work closely with many teams across a matrix and globally distributed organization structure. You will develop relationships across Product Management and Engineering teams, Transformation Operations, SaaS Ops, Finance, Sourcing, Security and IT. You will work directly with Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and a range of external partners; assessing and influencing the ecosystem and how Transformation Operations leverages the landscape to accelerate Cisco's leadership in Hybrid and Public Cloud. You will collaborate across the Transformational Operations (TRON) teams, and within Cloud Environments; you will work closely with the other Cloud Service Engineers, Cloud Developers, Cloud FinOps, Public Cloud Marketplace and Cloud Sourcing.

Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think were old (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but were also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do you cant put us in a box!

But Digital Transformation is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Dont care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? Thats cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!
