International Portfolio Management, a team within Prudentials Chief Investment Office, is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of portfolio management for Prudentials international insurance businesses, including asset/ liability management and portfolio construction.


This Newark-based position will focus on Prudentials Japanese-domiciled portfolios and report to the Investment Senior Vice President, Head of Japan Operations Portfolio Management. The position will contribute to a team that directly supports the Chief Investment Officer, International Businesses.



  • Collaborate with a team that includes representatives from the investment staff of our foreign-domiciled International Insurance units in the development of asset liability management-oriented investment policies and portfolio strategies that satisfy the businesss multiple objectives and constraints, including: investment income requirements, tolerance for financial statement volatility, economic risk of loss, and returns on risk-adjusted capital.
  • Support the development and implementation of annual investment plans, and periodic updates of those plans.
  • Analyze positions and ALM positioning for our USD, JPY and AUD portfolios.
  • Evaluate new asset classes and opportunities to enhance portfolio performance and diversification.
  • Lead and coordinate with local investment teams, Finance, Actuarial, Risk Management, Investment Systems, and other stakeholders in the development of portfolio analytics and reporting capabilities. 
  • Provide technical advice and support to local investment officers on portfolio management/investment issues.
  • Evaluate product hedging requirements and related pricing considerations.
  • Evaluate progress of investment plans
  • Provide analytic and implementation support for new investment programs or transactions.
  • Collaborate with affiliated and unaffiliated asset managers to understand market conditions, trends, and opportunities.
  • Coordinate foreign currency and other portfolio transactions and risk-hedging positions on behalf of our major international insurance operations.
  • Coordinate and partner with other International Insurance functional representatives and corporate partners (e.g., Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Actuarial, Treasury, and Finance) in addressing issues impacting the International Insurance portfolios.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • The ideal candidate will have five or more years of portfolio or investment analysis experience within a financial services organization.
  • Very strong analytic and quantitative skills. MBA/MS-Finance degree or candidate, and CFA charter is preferred.
  • Knowledge of investment/asset allocation theory and fixed income mathematics.
  • Experience and/or strong interest in investment markets in the US and globally.
  • Proficiency in Excel-based modeling (experience with VBA, MATLAB, or C is a plus).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication skills, team orientation, and the desire and ability to work with business partners of different national, cultural, and language backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of insurance liabilities a plus.
  • Business-level proficiency in Japanese is a plus.
