**ROLE SUMMARY**



We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual with strong expertise in molecular and cellular biology to join our Cellular, Genomic, and Protein Sciences (CGPS) group. As part of this early discovery biology group, this individual will support the development of physiologically relevant cell models, target identification, and target validation. The successful candidate will demonstrate a range of expertise, including the culture of primary cells and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), generation of clonal cell lines, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology, and various standard molecular biology methods for characterizing cells. Additionally, he/she will partner with a cross-disciplinary, and highly-engaged, team of scientists to develop and apply the ideal cell models for various programs, and will apply his/her skills in molecular biology and functional genomics to drive target identification and validation efforts.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



The successful candidate will join a team of scientists within the larger Discovery Sciences Department that is responsible for a range of functions including development of cellular models to drive discovery programs and target-ID efforts, as well as target validation. The individual will apply his/her strong background in cell and molecular biology to generate cell models, with a focus on primary cells and iPSC-derived models, and to conduct target ID and target validation efforts using functional genomics approaches. Additionally, functional genomics methods will be applied to study small molecule mechanisms of action.



This individual will collaborate across multiple groups and will be asked to bring strategic insight into the design of strategies to develop and characterize appropriate cell models, target-ID screening assays, and target validation workstreams. Additionally, he/she will maintain a strong and current knowledge base in state-of-the-art genomic methods including evolving CRISPR methods and stem cell approaches, to enhance our platforms for conducting functional genomics work in physiologically relevant cell models.



**Successful candidates will be expected to:**



+ Have experience developing and implementing a range of cell models including primary cells and iPSC-derived models.

+ Be experienced in developing clonal cell lines including iPSC clones.

+ Have demonstrated hands-on expertise in applying CRISPR/Cas9 methods to generate knockout and knock-in cell lines, and to conduct mechanistic studies.

+ Apply a range of standard cell characterization methods to ensure cell quality, and to characterize gene and protein expression.

+ Includes sequence analysis, qRT-PCR, western blotting, FACs, and immunostaining.

+ Maintain a current grasp of the state-of-the-art in functional genomics strategies.

+ Be proficient in designing experiments to address key scientific questions and demonstrate an ability to analyze and interpret experimental results, and to communicate these results effectively to program teams.

+ Lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and methods that can advance efforts to implement more relevant cell models and to drive target ID and validation.

+ Promote Pfizer's capabilities and reputation through external publications and presentations.

+ Maintain up to date electronic laboratory notebooks and records in accordance with Pfizer policy.

+ Comply with all safety training and good laboratory practices.

+ Be highly motivated, highly organized and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

+ Show significant ability to work effectively in a matrixed, team-oriented environment.



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Minimum qualification: PhD with 0-4 years or M.S. with 5+ years post-degree experience in cell or molecular biology or related discipline.

+ Solid experience in the development and use of relevant cell models including primary cells and iPSCs.

+ Expertise in CRISPR/Cas9 and other methods for genetic manipulation and characterization in cells.

+ Proficient in standard methods for cell characterization including mRNA and protein analysis such as qRT-PCR/ddPCR, Western blotting, immunostaining, and FACs.

+ Demonstration of excellent computer, verbal and written communication skills.

+ Demonstrated examples of personal and scientific leadership

+ Have a sustained track record of delivering high quality data meeting the needs of teams.

+ Experience of successfully interacting with and meeting the needs of stakeholder groups is essential as well as having a customer focus.

+ Ability to multi-task and to balance bench and desk activities.

+ Ability to effectively lead independent projects, and to mentor more junior lab members.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Industry experience working in an early drug discovery setting.

+ Cell-based assay experience including high-content screening, reporter assays, HTRF/AlphaLISA.

+ Hands-on expertise working with primary and/or iPSC-derived immune cells such as macrophages and iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes.

+ Experience working with automation to drive efficiencies in assay screening and/or cell line development.



**PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS**



+ Sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and walking.

+ Ability to perform practical laboratory bench work and work on a computer (while standing or sitting).

+ Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret data.



**NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS**



+ Travel mostly restricted to occasional trips to Cambridge, MA, or less frequently, to La Jolla, CA to partner with Research Unit project teams and to attend appropriate meetings and conferences.

+ Compliance with laboratory safety practices.
