Catering Chef Manager

Dalhousie University


Reporting to the Director of Residence Dining, the Catering Chef Manager is responsible for all event bookings within the Dalhousie University Community. This position requires strong, clear and consistent leadership with a focus on guest service, quality food production, sales, and maximization of revenue for our event and meeting space business.



  • Oversee catering functions and special events for internal and external clients/ groups
  • Meet with clients to determine catering requirements, floor plans, rentals, staffing for events
  • Plan, direct and guide catering team to execute orders in a manner that meets/exceeds operational and financial targets, jumping in and working alongside front line staff when necessary
  • Work alongside Executive Chef to plan catering menu, and catered events menu
  • Manage catering purchases and inventory
  • Standardizes production recipes to ensure consistent quality
  • Uphold Classic Fare Catering standards through training and taking part in program updates offered by corporate
  • Lead by example in adhering to all Aramark policies and procedures, including Business Conduct, Food Safety, OH&S
  • Remain compliant with regards to all OH&S policies, procedures and required activities (i.e. updated safety boards, inventory on First Aid Kits, proper chemical handling, monthly safety talks etc.
  • Ensure all front line staff provide quality, courteous service to all customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • 5+ years progressive culinary experience
  • 3+ years experience in leadership role
  • Red Seal considered an asset
  • Completion of Hospitality or Food and Beverage program considered an asset
  • Strong verbal communication
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Valid drivers license
  • Flexible; evening and weekend work required
  • Long periods of standing
  • Repetitive movements
