Business Development Representative

Highlands Behavioral Health System is an 86 bed freestanding behavioral health hospital offering psychiatric care for adults and adolescents. Centrally located in Littleton, the facility is easily accessible to families throughout the Front Range and just minutes from surrounding communities.

Business Development Representative

The Business Development Representative represents Highlands Behavioral Health System in developing business relationships with individual referral sources and private and public agencies (hospitals, schools, community mental health centers, government social and mental health programs, private mental health and social service organizations, etc.) for the purpose of providing on-going customer service and increasing referrals. The Business Development Representative provides Sales, Marketing, Community Support, and Customer Service activities within the Business Development Department. The BDR participates in referral source identification, assessing the needs of the customer and making the required number of marketing contacts to each account, in order to develop and maintain a long-term referral relationship which will generate a continuous flow of admissions to meet hospital census objectives.Looking for a self-starter with ability to work independently and with excellent time management skills. Background in behavioral health or therapy services is plus, but not required.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Effectively plan and manage weekly schedules for contacting referral sources and agencies
  • He/she plans events, provides tours, performs referral source in-services, acts as a liaison between the Referral Source and the hospital, and seeks out new business development opportunities for the hospital; works in general office environment and hospital units/programs.
  • Account management and regular maintenance is required through a corporate database, as well as attendance to weekly business development meetings to include ongoing territory/admission goals, associated activity, and updates.
  • Frequent travel to various agencies and facilities within and outside of the community.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Collaborate with team members to support departmental goals and marketing plans
  • Assist in developing quarterly marketing plans, track progress and analyze results
  • Utilize UHS computer systems to track key indicators that determine effectiveness of referral development efforts
  • Effectively communicate recommendations and findings to team members
  • Demonstrate initiative in promoting service excellence and continuous quality improvement
  • Assist clinical staff and hospital leaders to implement service recovery strategies
  • Plan and execute educational seminars and other marketing events
  • Remain current with market trends and competitor programs
  • Identify and report new business development and marketing opportunities
  • Perform other job related activities as assigned by the Director of Business Development
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in psychology, marketing, and/or business required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years sales/direct marketing preferred.
  • A valid Colorado Drivers license and reliable transportation are required.


  • Must be able to focus on new lead generation, quality referral source development, as well as maintenance of current accounts.
  • Must have strong knowledge of referral development and demonstrate strength in account management processes.
  • Must be able to perform assignments with minimal supervision;
  • Must be able to work successfully under highly stressful conditions;
  • Must be able to make sound, independent judgments based on ethical principles;
  • Must have skills in trouble-shooting, flexibility and prioritizing workload.
  • Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures;
  • Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion;
  • Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads an work assignments on a constant basis;
  • Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.
