Job Requirements

Position Summary

Provides direct care, monitoring, assistance, and advocacy for behavioral health clients and support to professional staff by performing a wide variety of duties. Responsible for care and supervision of facility residents, documenting behavior and developing positive relationships with residents and staff. Acts as a role model for residents by demonstratingeffective problem solving and decision-making skills, assists inrecreational and therapeutic activities for residents, and assuresscheduled programming is accomplished.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures program schedule is maintained. Contributes to the effective implementation of individual treatment plans of clients through alert observation, and "line of sight" supervision at all times.
  • Maintains cleanliness, assist patients to develop appropriate cleaning skills by role modeling. Performs daily living maintenance responsibilities.
  • Completes room checks, safety checks and patient supervision checks as directed.
  • Ensures orientation of new patients immediately upon admission.
  • Prepares for and facilitates psycho-educational groups and documents resident progress as needed.
  • Utilizes motivational interviewing and patient-centered techniques when assisting patients. Uses appropriate motivational counseling skills, active listening skills, appropriate tone and volume of voice, provides a high frequency and variety of positive reinforcements, maintains appropriate boundaries, and promotes a positive peer culture.
  • Provides empathic, supportive approach to all patient interactions by acting as a sounding board for the individual. Confrontation is not used.
  • Obtains all medications from consumer at intake and secures according to policy.
  • Provides appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, correctly prioritizing safety concerns.
  • Utilizes local crisis response plan in case of emergency psychiatric emergency (i.e. suicidal/homicidal ideation or threats).
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of daily reporting of clients behavior as outlined by policy. Assists in preparation of other behavioral reports and daily activities log as required.
  • Performs responsibilities according to guidelines, and applies performance feedback.
  • Practices confidentiality with regard to residents and staff.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Participates in training and meets FRN and licensure expectations related to training.
  • Performs all other duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to inspire patient confidence in the FRN Staff and the FRN Model of Treatment.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate through conduct and communications the stability required to effectively assist patients and their family members through the FRN Model of Treatment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must have general knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing and spreadsheets (MS Word, Excel).
  • Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and the ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into the organization.
  • Understands need for and maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources and all other contacts.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with dually diagnosed individuals preferred.
  • CPR certification (or willing to obtain CPR training and certification).
