The Associate Billing Representative coordinates payments from patients, insurance companies, and other parties.

Primary Responsibilities:

""
    ""
  • Answers patients questions regarding statements and insurance coverage
  • ""
  • Enters the billing charges into the computer billing system.
  • ""
  • Posts all payments to patient accounts; post all denials, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments
  • ""
  • Opens mail, makes deposits
  • ""
  • Prepares the HCFA form with data such as the names of the insurance company and policy holder, the policy number, and the physician diagnosis
  • ""
  • Completes billing to the proper payees (Medicare, Medicaid, insurance company, patient, or third-party administrator) for services provided; ensures accurate patient demographics for billing; contacts the guarantor to obtain accurate information as necessary
  • ""
  • Contacts the insurance company to verify patient coverage and obtain information concerning the extent of benefits
  • ""
  • Computes the total medical bill showing the amounts to be paid by the insurance company and by the patient
  • ""
  • Calls or writes companies with unpaid insurance claims to obtain settlement of the claims; may convert accounts to self-pay status per practice guideline
  • ""
  • Contacts patients regarding outstanding balances; collects copayments and self-pay portions
  • ""
  • Establishes payment plans to help patients manage payment of bills
  • ""
  • Creates and mails insurance claims and patient statements
  • ""
  • Rebills insurance companies or other third parties to secure payment for patients; sends documentation for appeals as necessary
  • ""
  • Verifies all entries made by cashiers and makes corrections as necessary
  • ""
  • Reviews edits from claim scrubber software
  • ""
  • Prepares secondary claim form
  • ""
  • Researches and resolves unbilled claims
  • ""
  • Performs manual and scanned charges, reviews scanned charges
  • ""
  • Reviews code scan edits, performs in conjunction with month end requirements
  • ""
  • Manages insurance aging reports
  • ""
  • Manages patient aging reports
  • ""
  • Prepares accounts receivable reports
  • ""
  • Maintains accuracy and production rates with regard to month end requirements
  • ""
  • Coordinates transfer of delinquent accounts to collection agencies
  • ""
  • Makes recommendations to management for write-offs; communicates with physicians regarding dismissal of patients
  • ""
  • Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested
  • ""
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed
  • ""
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures regarding HIPAA and handling of PHI
  • ""
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures regarding handling of cash or other payments

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • ""
  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare accounts receivable or healthcare revenue cycle
  • ""
  • You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting or other company location
  • ""
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive VoiceResponse (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders.
