Our company is looking for an Assistive Technology Lead in Herndon, VA. or Charleston, WV.
Lead and directs the assistive technology program (ATP) efforts associated with Section 508 Standards for information and communication technology (ICT) and Section 255 Guidelines for telecommunications equipment and customer premises equipment.
Serving as a source of subject matter expertise, conducting assessments, implementing testing processes, and providing recommendation(s) to ensure that disabled employees have access to information that is comparable to the access which is available to others.
Support the installation and troubleshooting of AT and IT compatibility problems, for individuals with the following disabilities under four general categories as follows: (1) blind/low vision (2) deaf and/or hard of hearing (3) mobility/dexterity and (4) cognitive/learning.
Evaluate and make recommendations to the ATP on updates, enhancements or expansion of the current AT standards and methodologies to ensure that employees with disabilities have access to information technology resources, as required by Section 508. This includes specialized software, hardware, training, and information to enable access to information resources and data available on the Internet/Intranet.
Perform analysis and integration of AT equipment with Microsoft Windows operating systems. This includes testing, integration, and preparation of installation and configuration instructions, for all approved AT. Research Microsoft accessibility features, identify and test AT-recommended configurations, and conduct end-user training on the features and configurations, as necessary.
Visit client's Field Offices to support and coordinate training for persons with disabilities on the ATP solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field of study and a minimum of Three (3) years relative Section 508 Compliance and Accessibility Technology experience; or equivalent combination of education / experience.

Possess a basic knowledge of American Sign Language and support of Section 508 compliance requirements for hardware, software, applications, and information.

Support the installation and troubleshooting of assistive technology (AT) and IT compatibility problems, for individuals with the following disabilities under four general categories as follows:

(1) blind/low vision (2) deaf and/or hard of hearing (3) mobility/dexterity and (4) cognitive/learning.

Possess a basic knowledge of American Sign Language and support of Section 508 compliance requirements for hardware, software, applications, and information.

Demonstrated knowledge of assistive technology (i.e., JAWS, Dragon, ZoomText).

Ability to independently resolve widely varying complex problems using current job knowledge and using research and external resources.

Highly motivated and have strong customer focus with the ability to interface with all levels of staff.

Able to support and work the necessary hours to finish critical work. Must be willing to occasionally travel to client locations, as needed.

Excellent communication skills (written and oral). Highly motivated and have strong customer focus with the ability to interface with all levels of staff.
