Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of production-quality predictive models, including designing efficient ML infrastructure and data pipelines, writing production code, conducting code reviews, and working alongside our product deployment team
  • ""
  • Lead the discovery and development of new methods and models using a broad range of data modeling and analysis techniques
  • ""
  • Provide recommendations and guidance to project leads based on insights gleaned from data
  • ""
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with our broader product teams, while supporting ad-hoc analytics where needed
  • ""
  • Active role in training, coaching and mentoring staff within methodology and in other functions
  • ""
  • Improve the performance of existing analysis methods and institute new approaches on modeling and analysis frameworks
  • ""
  • Contribute to team processes that improve efficiency and ensure the accuracy of data and deliverables

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • ""
  • 8+ years of Actuarial/Analytical/Data Science/Mathematics experience
  • ""
  • Strong machine learning and/or statistical modeling expertise, covering areas such as supervised/unsupervised learning, ensembles, and neural networks
  • ""
  • Advanced proficiency in model-building languages such as R and Python
  • ""
  • Experience deploying data science models in a production setting
  • ""
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and database structures and proficiency in SQL
  • ""
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience interacting with senior management
  • ""
  • Solid leadership skills and demonstrated ability to lead product initiatives in order to achieve team goals and outcomes
  • ""

  • PhD or Masters Degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Experience and/or exposure in dealing with health care claims experience (i.e. understanding of costs, expected claims, diagnosis codes, procedure codes)

  • Have a proven track record of delivering robust and scalable analytical applications in a cloud environment
  • ""
  • Experience working with Data Science/Machine Learning libraries such as h2o, TensorFlow, caret, Keras, scikit-learn, etc.
  • ""
  • Experience building robust data pipelines using a variety of data sources, programming languages, and toolsets
  • ""
  • Hands-on experience in one or more big data ecosystem products/languages such as Spark
  • ""
  • Acquired knowledge of healthcare pricing of groups sized 51+

  • Experience in applying optimization procedures (gradient, genetic, ant colony) to a large data set

  • Knowledge of Optum products such as Symmetry, StepWise, Impact Intelligence, Optum Performance Analytics
