UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual (UHC E&I) is seeking an Accounting & Reporting Manager to join the segments Controllership team. The Accounting & Reporting Manager will be an integral part of the financial reporting team and will engage directly with the broader UHC E&I finance teams while supporting the financial close and internal (segment) reporting processes. A successful Accounting & Reporting Manager will demonstrate ability to support accounting and reporting for the month end processes, understand applicable accounting rules and regulations, drive improvements, support field leadership and other customers through reporting and thoughtful financial analysis. Candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills and ability to work with large amounts of data while working collaboratively in active partnership with FP&A and other teams. This position will have direct exposure to UHC E&I leadership. Primary Responsibilities:

    ""
  • Manage a team of two or more finance and accounting professionals
  • ""
  • Manage the financial close and reporting process including general ledger maintenance and oversight, daily tracking and analysis of segment results, and reporting to senior leaders on the UHC E&I financial results
  • ""
  • Resolve high level financial reporting issues
  • ""
  • Collaborate with other functional areas within E&I Finance / Controllership (e.g. Financial Planning & Analysis, Revenue, Medical Reserving, SG&A, Corporate and Legal Teams)
  • ""
  • Develop and maintain internal control structure and procedures for Financial Reporting
  • ""
  • Provide operational and technical accounting expertise to ensure compliance with GAAP, Company Policies, Health Care Reform rules, regulations and laws
  • ""
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of internal and external reporting ensuring the quality, reliability and timeliness of the reports
  • ""
  • Manage the audit process and work with outside auditors regarding accounting and reporting issues
  • ""
  • Coordinate and support the Company's strategic and operational planning
  • ""
  • Manage the cash flow forecasting and variance processes for the UHC E&I
  • ""
  • Support various special projects as required

Required Qualifications:

    ""
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • ""
  • 5+ years of demonstrated progression in financial reporting and analysis
  • ""
  • Experience successfully managing multiple requests, assessing priorities and achieving solutions under deadlines
  • ""
  • Expert level of proficiency with Excel, Word, and other financial reporting tools (i.e. SmartView)
  • ""
  • Intermediate level of working knowledge of GAAP; ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and senior management to drive sound business decisions
  • ""
  • Ability to anticipate accounting and financial reporting issues, assess their implications, determine their impact and develop and implement an appropriate action plan
  • ""
  • Ability to generate a complete set of financial statements with variance analyses (i.e. (actuals vs. forecast, period-over-period actuals) including income statement, balance sheet and cash flows forecast
  • ""
  • Strong working knowledge of financial systems, statements and reports
  • ""
  • Proven success with process automation and process improvement
  • "
