Cloud and Managed Services (CMS) group, under the broader Cisco Customer Experience (CX) organizing, is seeking a candidate for a blended senior role for a Technologist spanning skills and background in DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering on Cloud Technologies with experience in areas of Technical Marketing. This is a senior role oriented towards a healthy mix of operations experience, and some background in software development

You will have expertise with DevOps practices and tooling. Also, you are comfortable working on Cloud Technologies and has experience with and daily SRE type activities. This candidate should also have a blend of product and technology knowledge in Private and Public Clouds, Data Center and Networking having gone deep in some areas. You have strong hands-on ability acting as a leader in DevOps/SREs and bridging this to offer capabilities development and TME responsibilities every day.

This role will guide the deployment, and involving the defining, prototyping and driving of requirements for the assurance and operation of a core private cloud deployment used by major Service Providers (SP) and Enterprise customers.

This Observability Framework demonstrated and for which this you will implement and prototype on both platforms as well as a collection of services. The emphasis of this role is to both do hands-on implementation, influence, and guide the development of assurance capabilities on the framework with other SREs and product Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

Checkout code, implement, maintain, and contribute to an existing observability framework applied to run manageability on a DevOps Cloud infrastructure. Implemented and enhance (working with other SREs and TMEs) the ability for this framework to perform assurance and closed-loop automation and remediation, as well as event message out selectively to an OSS layer.

Prioritize backlog of operational issues, working hand-in in hand with SREs, and providing product and technology assurance guidance, requirements, and prioritization. These include but are not a limited area of infrastructure management, problem and incident management, capacity management, release management, scaling, zero downtime, and error budget principals.

Implementing processes & associated instrumentation for the management and operations of a large private cloud (Focus areas: OpenStack, Elastic Search, Prometheus). Drive and influence the practices and strategy based on investigations and expertise built on the assurance of products and technologies within the private cloud.

Balance the long-term ("big picture") and short-term implications of individual decisions. Skilled in the decomposing and simplified representation of complex technical concepts and able to rapidly comprehend the functions, capabilities, and gaps in new technologies.

Research and defined manageability requirements to monitor, manage, and assure specific Cisco and Non-Cisco products. Extract, collate, define requirements and present a clear vision for the future state of capabilities, and drive those requirements with technical detail and prototyping output back to more software development and infra Ops focused SREs.

Support other TMEs in pre-Sales activities involving RFP responses, and technical support for Business Development and Product Management.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Comfortable working with Hypervisors, Docker & Kubernetes (VMs/containers/cloud services) on several different clouds (AWS/Google/Rackspace/Azure). OpenStack experience preferred.
  • Strong Unix and scripting proficiency with a strong aptitude for investigation, research and prototyping on products and with Automation open source tools. Ability to probe and dig into various products and technologies in different ways (code, APIs, architecture documents).
  • Familiar with microservices architecture components and assurance, having proficiency with Prometheus Agents, Exporters & Alert Manager
  • Elastic Search (Cluster), Logstash, Kibana, Grafana, etc.
  • Comfortable working in private and public clouds, ideally having experience building, shipping, and operating a SaaS product on at last one major cloud technology. Automated builds and testing experience with continuous delivery experience desired
  • Fluent with DevOps tools: Ansible, SALT, Puppet, Chef, Jenkins, git, registries, repositories.
  • A solid understanding of SNMP, SSyslog & loggin, and able to use various applications and opensource tooling (git, snmpD, webhooks, filebeat, bulkstats uploads, agents/exporters
  • Comfortable working in an Agile development environment and with Rally
  • Experience with Cisco Data Center, Networking, Private Cloud and Orchestration Products and Technologies strongly preferred UCS, Nexus, ACI, NSO, Load Balancers
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to identify implement and oversee technical process improvements and manage multi-functional relationships with development, operations, product management, and architecture teams
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, systems analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience or reference implementations
