Cisco’s Optical Systems Business Unit defines and delivers market-leading optical solutions to enable transformational customer outcomes.  The technical marketing team consists of highly motivated and talented professionals with a gift for explaining Cisco's message and driving product development.

What You'll Do

The Optical Systems Business Unit is looking for a Technical Marketing Engineer to drive technical strategy and customer adoption of Cisco's Optical portfolio.  You will work cross-functionally with product managers to define product requirements across the Optical portfolio. You will also engage with customers to determine their needs and ensure our products reflect them. You will be an evangelist for our products and technologies, able to highlight competitive differentiation in order to meet business objectives.

Activities include, but are not limited to:


·       Developing technical collateral, including white papers, technical slide decks, and presentations

·       Presenting at trade shows and conferences such as Cisco Live!

·       Working with product management to define product requirements and feature priorities

·       Acting as technical consultant on sales calls and customer visits:

    • managing customer proof of concept demonstrations/presentations
    • supporting Early Field Trials
    • supporting customer-specific System Qualification Testing at both Cisco and customer locations
    • presenting in the Executive Briefing Center

·       Educating sales teams at conferences and workshops

·       Testing new technologies/releases in the lab

·       Driving the Transfer of Information to sales, partners and customer for new release training

·       Providing Request for Quote/Information response support

·       Creating/reviewing/optimizing transport network designs

·       Working closely with the Architecture, Marketing, Product Line Management and Engineering teams to provide customer use cases and feedback

·       Understanding industry solutions' building blocks and deriving competitive proposals

Who You Are

·       B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related technical field. Master’s degree is preferred.

·       2+ years related work experience

·       In depth understanding of the following technologies: DWDM (high speed transponder technologies, modulations schemes, line side systems (EDFA, RAMAN, ROADMs) and Client optics), OTN, SONET/SDH, MPLS, MPLS-TP.

·       Experience with Element and Network Management systems.

·       Comfortable w/scripting languages to develop automated testbeds.

·       Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

·       Strong ambition to learn and drive new technologies.

·       Work well in a team environment across multiple organizations.

·       Excellent communications skills and comfort presenting to varied audiences

·       Ability to distill complex technical concepts into understandable language

·       Flexible to travel up to 25% of the time supporting worldwide initiatives.
