POSITION SUMMARY:

The System Director of Performance Improvement is responsible for facilitating, planning, coordinating, organizing, directing and evaluating the systematic organization-wide Performance Improvement Programs for South Texas Health System.  Additionally, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Establishing system-wide processes and data analyzing, evaluating, action planning, and reporting outcome measures

  • Performing and/or coordinating all duties associated with medical staff performance and duties associated with Peer Review

  • Understanding financials and preparation of fiscal reports for accountable areas

  • Reviewing and managing and supporting publicly reported quality metrics (CMS, JC, QNet Core Measures, NPSG, Healthgrades, Never/Sentinel Event reporting, overall mortality rates, ACC, STS, ICD)

  • Ensures STHS accomplishes accreditation with Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies by facilitating a state of readiness

  • Supports STHS’ mission, vision, and strategic goals related to Performance Improvement, Patient Safety, and Outcome Data Measures

  • Creates a magnetic culture for patients, families, physicians and staff by incorporating best practice clinical initiatives and on-going opportunities for professional growth and development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two years of management and supervisory experience in a health care entity.

  2. Seven years of nursing experience, three of which has been administrative or in supervisory capacity.  Five to seven years in managing or directing a PI program. Additional training in data management, project management, benchmarking preferred.

  3. Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills.

  4. Strong organizational skills.

  5. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

 

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

  1. Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license. BSN required, Master’s preferred.

  2. New hires as of December 1, 2009 must have BSN (or Bachelor’s in related field) with master’s preferred. 

  3. Business or Healthcare Administration experience and demonstrated ability may be substituted for Masters Degree.

  4. Certified Professional Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred; if not currently certified CPHQ will be required with twelve months of hire.
