Job Description

The Speech Therapist functions under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Speech Therapy. They also assume the responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provide speech and language evaluations and treatments in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care. The Speech Pathologist/Therapist may be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibility of the coordinator in the absence of that individual.

Job Requirements


  1. Master's level SLP/CF
  2. Current Texas state licensure in Speech/Language Pathology
  3. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire and maintain certification throughout employment



  1. Ability to read, write and converse in English
  2. Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors and others
  3. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
  4. Ability to respond to pages, telephones and other auditory stimulation
  5. Ability to lift and transfer patients exerting 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently
  6. Ability to tolerate prolonged walking and standing
  7. Ability to have sensory skills to differentiate clinical signs and symptoms
  8. Ability to deal with a variety of stressful situations including emergency response to patient incidents
