Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE

This position provides professional legal support by assisting supervising attorneys in all areas of commercial transactions, compliance, consumer complaint, and legal concepts relevant to the construction industry, including managing contracts from negotiation through implementation, monitoring compliance process, compiling research, gathering and organizing evidence, information, and stories for customer complaint matters, using technical knowledge and experience to evaluate trends and information to prepare reports, maintaining accurate and complete file documentation.  As needed, the Legal Specialist will provide support in connection with the management of special projects and other department or company initiatives.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Drafting, analyzing, interpreting and negotiating a variety of contracts including NDAs, services agreements, vendor agreements, merchandising contracts, contracts for the purchase of goods and services, statements of work, and contract amendments
  • Assist with investigation and case management of customer complaints
  • Gather data and prepare excel reports to highlight business concerns
  • Work with internal business clients to manage compliance matters
  • Update and manage contract templates and contracts database
  • Conduct legal research and summarize laws, cases and other regulations as requested
  • Management of special projects or other department or company initiatives
NATURE AND SCOPE
  • Position reports to Corporate Counsel, Senior Corporate Counsel, Assistant General Counsel or Associate General Counsel
  • No direct responsibility for supervising others
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Additional Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job
  • Paralegal certificate
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years
Physical Requirements:
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a corporate legal environment
  • 7+ years in contract administration
  • Collaborates with both internal and external clients in a professional and responsive manner
  • Familiarity with legal concepts relevant to the construction industry

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize the completion of multiple responsibilities and manage time efficiently
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiating skills with a comprehensive knowledge of standard contract terms (e.g., indemnification, warranty, limitation of liability, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
  • Sound business judgment and strategic thinking capability
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, Excel, SharePoint, and other computer-based programs
  • Team oriented with a high degree of personal and professional integrity and ethics
