POSITION SUMMARY: The Flight Paramedic functions under the direction of the Medical Control Physician, and the Chief Flight Medic. The Flight Paramedic assures provision of care to an assigned patient population in a professional manner, utilizing a systematic approach and the principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with other health team members. This position requires proficiency in critical pre-hospital patient management. Supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and practices the Service Excellence Standards to all customer groups.

Job Requirements

JOB TITLE: Flight Paramedic

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

1. Ability to read and write in English

2. Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others.

3. Ability to remain calm during stressful situations

4. Ability to respond to pages/radios

5. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.

6. Ability to repeatedly twist, squat and stoop.

7. Bending, lifting (minimum of 125 pounds), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing, and pulling.

8. Must be able to lift and move patients and equipment used within the aircraft

9. Exposure to infectious organisms and toxic chemicals

10. Must have no medical conditions that would be exacerbated by altitude changes

11. Must be able to function effectively while exposed to the elements of the environment, exposure to hot/cold

12. Exposure to operating aircraft, ground transport vehicles, loud noises, vibrations, and hot exhaust gases

13. A small cabin area to deliver patient care in ambulances and aircraft with limited ability to maneuver

14. Carrying transport equipment, lifting patients, stretchers and performing patient care for extended periods of time in possibly adverse situations

15. Space constraints and a constantly moving environment

16. Emergency exits are specific dimensions

1. Computer/Telephone/Calculator

2. Paging system

3. Portable Communication Radio

4. Facsimile machine

5. Invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices

6. IV regulatory devices

7. Ventilators

8. Aviation Safety Devices

9. Other various medical equipment and supplies specific to job role

Education, Training, Experience And Licenses/Registrations Required:

1. EMTP currently certified or licensed by the Texas DSHS with a minimum of 4 years of MICU experience.

2. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS instructor preferred

3. Current Trauma Course (PHTLS, ITLS, ATLS, TPATC)

4. FP-C required within 24 months of hire.

5. NRP within 6 months of hire

6. ATLS or TPATC required within 18 months of hire.

7. Must meet weight criteria

8. Public Speaking or teaching experience preferred

9. Previous Flight Experience Preferred

10. Drivers safety course for company vehicles

11. Must successfully complete initial (90 Day) orientation and recurrent training and competencies.
