What You'll Do

Reporting to the Vice President, Government Affairs for the Asia-Pacific, Japan and Greater China (APJC) region, this executive will be based in Seoul and will be the leader of government affairs and public policy for Cisco in the Republic of Korea. This government affairs and public policy work will need to be closely aligned with the business needs of Cisco’s products and services and Cisco’s priorities in the theatre. This executive will need to collaborate closely with the Cisco Sales Vice President for the Republic of Korea, and other senior Cisco executives in order to advance Cisco’s relationships and policy interests with the governments and policy makers in the Republic of Korea. (S)he will also lead Cisco’s engagements with trade associations, coalitions, civil society groups and other stakeholders, in line with Cisco’s government affairs strategy.

The candidate for this position will be expected to be a thought leader both within the company and with government officials and agencies, demonstrating subject matter expertise and acting as a collaborative partner and influencer.

Specific Responsibilities:
* Lead and support Cisco’s engagements with the Republic of Korea key government leaders and policy makers; further develop key relationships between Republic of Korea officials and policy makers and Cisco executives.
* Be responsible for managing and advocating Cisco’s core public policy initiatives in the Republic of Korea to grow and defend the business. This includes creating both internal and external partnerships, and managing our involvement on these topics with trade associations.
* Identify, analyze and prioritize emerging policy issues and prepare responses such as position papers, presentations, publication pieces and briefings. Work closely with APJC colleagues and global subject matter leads towards this end.
* Apply expert knowledge and understanding of government and policy to activities and initiatives that that company leadership agrees are core issues for Cisco.
* Work collaboratively with the Sales Vice President for the Republic of Korea, and other Cisco senior execs, and advize on current political and policy trends and potential implications for the business.
* Partner with organizations and executives throughout Cisco who seek to understand public policy issues within your geography and to assess new issues. Support partner organizations such as Public Sector, Global Service Provider, Legal, Engineering and other Cisco groups.

Who You'll Work With

Government Affairs and Community Relations (GACR) is a global corporate function led by the Corporate Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Community Relations. It represents Cisco to governments worldwide. GACR works to build relationships with governments, to educate governments and regulators about Cisco and the technology industry, and to advocate public policy positions consistent with Cisco’s vision to use technology to change the way the world works, lives, plays and learns.

Who You Are

* Minimum of 10 years experience in public policy environment and comprehensive understanding of the operation of the Republic of Korea government and regulatory agencies involved in tech policy issues.
* Political and government experience in the public and/or private sector: e.g. having worked in an agency or government body; or having worked as a government affairs professional in a medium to large international corporation, trade association, law firm or consulting firm.
* Knowledge of and relationships with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea.
* Must be familiar with current policy priorities and challenges in the ICT sector.
* Detailed knowledge of policy issues and analytical skills: ability to analyze business and technological impacts of policy choice and implementations.
* Executive presence; strong advocacy, communication and collaboration skills
* Must be a self-starter who can manage multiple challenges simultaneously.

Desirable skills:
* Legal/regulatory experience related to public policy
* Experience leading advocacy directed at Republic of Korea policy makers/ regulators
* Leadership in developing and delivering projects or campaigns
* Experience developing relationships in complex hierarchical and non-hierarchical organizations and in advising senior executives/leaders
* Understanding of the networking and Internet industries
* Advanced degree in law, political science, business, economics or similar
* Master’s degree abroad is a plus
* Korean mother tongue; strong written and spoken English
