Job Description

Southern Crescent Behavioral Health System is comprised of three (3) facilities: Anchor Hospital, Crescent Pines Hospital Campus, and the Riverdale Outpatient Campus. Providing a myriad of behavioral health services across the continuum from inpatient through outpatient treatment, we treat adolescent through geriatric patients. We are currently seeking energetic and dynamic applicants for the position of Mental Health Aide (MHA) for Anchor Hospital.

Established in 1986, the Anchor Hospital campus of Southern Crescent Behavioral Health System is a 122-bed facility accredited by the Joint Commission that specializes in the treatment of behavioral health and addictive disease disorders for Adolescents, Adults and Senior Adults.  Located in College Park, GA, Anchor Hospital serves Mental Health and Substance Abuse patients from all over the Southeast. We are committed to excellence in diagnosis, treatment and education. Patients who come to Anchor Hospital are in crisis, and the road to recovery for behavioral, mental health, and substance abuse patients is a difficult one. The staff at Anchor Hospital serves as compassionate guides who provide for our patients’ clinical needs.

Job Requirements

The Mental Health Assistant provides direct care to adolescents and adult patients with psychiatric disorders to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients.  MHAs have the primary responsibility for ensuring the patient’s safety on the unit. MHAs are responsible for understanding and using the least restrictive interventions per facility policy and avoiding seclusion and restraint whenever possible.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: High school graduate or equivalent.  Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field preferred.
  2. Experience: Prefer experience in a psychiatric hospital setting as a Mental Health Assistant working with children, adolescents, geriatric and/or adults.
  3. License/Certification: Not required.
  4. Skills: Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Verification of absence of criminal record on local, state and federal levels. 
  5. Physical Requirements: Extensive walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs.  Must be able to lift over fifty (50 lbs.) pounds.
